Interactive Anniversary Update

There are probably few things quite as breathtaking as watching a Boeing 747 taking off into the clouds during a snow storm. OK, well, there are probably a lot of things either more or equally breathtaking, but last night when I watched one of our FedEx planes punch out, it was astounding to me. The light glare from it's lights were reflected on the snow, so even though I couldn't see much through all the snow, I could clearly see this enormous, 400,000lb peice of machinery somehow defying gravity and lifting up until it disappeared above the clouds. Wish I could have taken a picture.
The 13th was our 1st wedding anniversary, and naturally Jen was sick. I spent the whole weekend making her tea, adjusting her pillows, and making sure she wasn't too warm or too cold. But since we all feel fine now, this past weekend we decided to celebrate the anniversary belatedly.
We went ice skating at Millenium Park, something she's been begging me to do with her since... forever. I have to say it is harder than it looks. Everyone was out there flying around, but Jen and I, both beginners, clung fearfully to the railing for most of our time there. Still, we had a lot of fun. Despite the 1 degree weather, it was a beatiful sunny day, and the glint and glitter of downtown Chicago was just gorgeous. We warmed up afterwards in the cafe and shared a cup of pumpkin soup.
After that, we went to a folk music gathering uptown, specifically for hurdy-gurdies. I don't play, and neither does Jen, but I really like them and one day hope to own one and learn to play somewhat decently. The people were really helpfull and they answered all kinds of questions. They even let me play one for a while. Didn't seem too hard, but there is a rhythm involved that is sort of difficult to get ahold of. But enough of that. If you're interested you'll look it up.
Lastly, we went to a Peruvian restaurant we've been hearing about from co-workers. It's called Rinconcito Sudamericano, and I'll recomend it to all of you. Absolutely delicious food and good sized portions. I had the ceviche, which I heard was world class. It was. If you like seafood they you'll love it. Jen had a marinated steak dish, which was equally delicious. We also shared some calamari, which was cooked in a rather interesting fashion, but I'll let you discover for yourself. Overall, it was a little pricey, but well worth it.
Also, my best friend Joe came back home from Iraq on Sunday. He's on leave for about a month. He called me early Sunday morning from a layover in Atlanta to ask me if I can pick him up from the airport when he gets into Chicago. I said sure (I've been waiting). Jen and I took him out to eat, then drove him home to Indiana. It was kind of a suprise visit for his parents. They thought he was coming in June, so when they saw him walking up to the house, everyone inside was very excited. Jen and I then went to my brother's to pick up some packages we had shipped there (things tend to disappear when I have them shipped here) and we continued back home. Jen cooked up a chicken we had in the fridge and we cuddled up and watched The Bourne Identity, which I have to saw was better than I thought it would be. Now I have to see the sequels.
All in all, it was a busy weekend, but lots of fun.
