Forced Labor a.k.a. The Return of the Hawk

I guess I have no choice in posting this. I was ordered to. Thanks, Erin.

Well, let's see what's up.
I just reeorganized my living room for the hundreth time. It feels alot more open now, which is good, because my previous method of getting from the kitchen to the bedroom would often require swinging from suspended ropes in a Tarzan-like fashion. Now simple bipedal walking will suffice.
I semi-finished my chainmail shirt last week. Just a few leather accents and it should look quite good. Now I'm working on my coif, which is a giant pain in the ass. Let me tell you, making concentric metal circles over and over is both hypnotic and mind numbing. I imagine that one hour of mailing is something equivalent to 3 shots of vodka in terms of brain cells I'm never getting back.
Speaking of which, there was a reenactment this past weekend in Lowell, IN, for which I had my picture in the paper. Two events in a row! Woot! I was playing the part of a Woodland Indian native to the area in the 1750's, ushering in The Return of the Hawk

I'll post some more pictures as soon as I get them. It was good fun (with good brandy too). I even learned I'm quite good at whittling. I made this here knife out of split up boards and decorated with gunpowder, wine, and a little scrimshaw:

I'm thinking about trying an animal next. Maybe a rabbit. Then maybe I'll sell them.
Back to the real world though, I am now in day 3 of trying to get the smell of fire off of me, the itch of poison ivy my hands, and the sting of sunburn off my neck. All in all though, it was well worth it. I love reenacting.
