A/N: So yeah. I'm not even sure how this happened. But it's hilarious and was super fun to write. Special thanks to bookstorequeer, kyuubi_paw and shanachie_quill for putting up with my endless questions. You guys are the wind beneath my wings.

Also, I know this prolly comes off as me being all hate-y on the Marines. I have full respect for anyone who serves, in any Military branch. So yeah...thanks for what you do...and stuff. Even though I'm Canadian, and our military is the punchline of a lot of jokes. *sighs*

When Beth was thirteen her school hosted a 'Bring your parents to school' day. So she brought her mother and her Uncle Jake. Her father was a useless D-bag who'd skipped out on the best thing he'd never know, her Uncle Jake's words. Uncle Carlos came along to make sure Uncle Jake stayed out of trouble.

Beth wasn't sure what kind of trouble you could get into surrounded by teenagers, but Uncle Cougar always said that if there was trouble to be found, Uncle Jake would usually be hip deep in it by the end of the day. Case in point.

“Micheal, your turn.”

“Come on Dad. This is my Dad. He's a Marine.”

“Jarhead.”

“Excuse me?”

“Huh?”

“Did you just call me a jarhead?”

“Nope.” Jensen batted his baby blues innocently until the other man huffed and went back to talking to the class.

“I'm Gunnery Sargent Micheal Thomas of the United States Marine Corps.” He stopped at the sound of muffled snickering coming from the back of the room and focused in once again on the tall blonde man. “Is there something funny?”

“Not at all Gunnery Sargent. Please continue.”

“To be a Marine means committing to something greater then yourself. It means a chance to serve your country, to prove to yourself and everyone around you that there is a capacity for greatness. A chance to see the world from a unique perspective. A chance to be part of the few, the proud. The Marines.”

“Are you reading from a recruitment poster? Did you miss your quota for this month?”

“I would appreciate it if you could give me the courtesy of finishing with no more interruptions, Sir.” Jensen kept his mouth shut and nodded, lips twitching at the elbow Cougar dug into his ribs.

Five more minutes of Gunnery Sargent Micheal Thomas talking about the Marine Corps and taking a couple of questions about what he did, and it was Beth's turn to introduce the parent she's brought.

“My mom's busy today. And my dad's a useless D-bag right Uncle Jake?.” Jensen nodded slowly, Cougar in near hysterics beside him. His sister was going to KILL him when she found out about this. “So this is my Uncle Jake and my Uncle Cougar.”

“Oooooooohhhhh.” One of the boys near the back of the room sing-songed. “Are you guys married?”

“Joshua.” Beth's teacher, Mrs. Vonn snapped. She was about to issue a formal apology to the two men when they wandered up to the front of the room, looking like a couple of wolves in a flock of sheep. Cougar laced his fingers with Jensen's and Joshua suddenly found himself under a thousand yard stare that made war criminals spill their guts.

“Yes.”

“Oh....cool.” Jensen rolled his eyes, squeezed Cougar's hand and then started talking.

“Hi. I'm Jake Jensen and this is my buddy Cougar. We're in the army. I'm what you'd call high class Tech Support and Cougs here is a Long Range Elimination Specialist. I'd give you my rank, but it's classified.”

“No it isn't. Corporal.” Cougar smirked at Jensen's sneer. A boy in a blue shirt raised his hand and Jensen pointed to him.

“What do you guys do?”

“Oh this and that. Most of the time it's just monitoring things and fixing glitches in someone's database. We don't have the worlds most exciting jobs.”

“Long range Eliminations...that's a sniper right?” A girl with a long black braid blurted out.

“Si.”

“That means yes.” Jensen supplied at some of the confused faces. There was a murmur of excitement that passed through the class at the thought of an actual sniper in their classroom. The closest any of them had gotten was Call of Duty.

“Have you ever killed anyone?” Joshua piped up from the back of the class. There were a few nervous titters and Mrs. Vonn looked ready to strangle the boy. Jensen glanced at Cougar who shrugged and nodded.

“Uh...yeah.”

“How many people?”

“That's an inappropriate question Joshua. You have detention with me after school.” Mrs. Vonn snapped and the boy ducked his head guiltily.

“Have you ever been to the jungle?” A girl with long blonde hair asked, the expression on her face clear that she had a new crush.

“Which jungle?” Jensen half laughed. “I've been to a few.”

“Have you been to Afghanistan?” Josh asked, earning another sharp look from Mrs. Vonn.

“Yep. Spent a couple months out there a few years ago.” Jensen said with a smile. He wasn't about to fault the kid for his curiosity. Hell, he'd asked far worse questions at that age.

“What was it like?”

“It was....sandy.” Cougar snorted and rocked back on his heels, waiting for the question session to be over with so he could go back to his apartment and recalibrate the scope he'd picked up the week before.

“Have you ever taken SERE?” Gunnery Sargent Micheal asked, his tone full of innocence. His expression spoke more of heckling Jensen like Jensen had heckled him and the hacker could appreciate that. Cougar was smirking and Jensen shrugged and rubbed a hand at the back of his neck like he was embarrassed at the answer.

“Uh. More then one course actually.”

“What's sear?” Beth asked and Jensen froze. He was trying to keep this as sheltered as he could for his niece's sake. He knew she knew a lot more then she let on about what he did when he was gone for months at a time, but it was nice to keep thinking she was still as innocent as she'd been when she was eight years old.

“It's uh...special training we take in case the bad guys get us.” Jensen managed, glaring at the Gunnery Sargent who had the decency to look at least a little sorry for the question.

“Times up gentleman.” Mrs. Vonn said with a smile and Jensen sighed in relief. He wasn't sure how much more of those questions he could take. He decided at that moment that he'd rather take on half a dozen heavily armed guerrilla's any day of the week rather then stand up in front of a classroom full of children and talk to them about his job again. Seriously.
