She was adorable and so well behaved! I was thinking I could bring her to show to people who might be afraid of bees so they could see how cute a bee looks up close. (:
I was really bummed: the first time I videoed her she once again fell off my hand and freaked out until I put my finger next to her -- that would have been really cute to have on video, but after I ended it I realized it hadn't been video-ing!! ): ):

I can't speak for the rest of them, but I do. Then again, I studied Latin and Greek for eight years :)
I would bet many people know what their names mean though. My little sister Deborah certainly does (her name also means bee; it's completely coincidental)
This is fascinating -- I watched the video twice. The first time I winced when she made her way up your hand. The second time I was like, "Wow, that's cool...wow..."
Am I correct thinking honeybees don't sting unless you aggravate them? Sometimes during the summer I'll see them flit around the yard completely ignoring me...of course, it may be that whatever flowers I have out there are more interesting to them than I am, but they're not like yellowjackets who just like to go after anything moving...
Yeah honeybees definitely don't sting for no reason.
Though if you're standing too close to their hive they might think you're a threat and sting you. It doesn't help if you wear dark clothes -- black or dark colours can make you look like their natural predator, the bear.
When they're out pollinating though they are pretty much NOT going to sting you unless you try pretty hard to rile them up (step on them or otherwise I dunno swat them). When I was in elementry school I caught on to this and would catch bees in my hands when they were on flowers :D
And yeah, yellowjackets are pretty nasty. They defend their nest area MUCH more aggressively and are easier to piss off I think. Since bees die when they sting they have to be careful about when they decide something is serious enough to warrant the sacrifice, but yellowjackets can sting as many times as they want ... /=

Haha in re the one that stung you while you were sunbathing? Yeah weird things happen on occasion. Like I said I think it's highly likely it was the scent of your lotion.
