“Yuri Stepanovich Predstav?” asked Ivan matter-of-factly. Across the table, squinting in the bright light, Yuri nodded.
“You may call me Sergeant Alexandrov,” continued Ivan, rifling through a stack of papers on the metal desk between them. There was a slight pause while he occupied himself thus.

My favourite historical fiction was about the 100 year war, there were made up characters but the gist was true, and I actually went to visit some spots of it and everything, so yah for hisfic!

Ooh whats it called? As I think I mentioned to you before I'm kind of intrigued by the 100 years war (or at least I remember talking to you about the 80 years war, which was kind of tangental). Last year I was lobbying to have a Model UN conference run a historical simulation of the Peace of Westphalia negotiations, which of course ended both wars and established the modern conception of nation-states.

So yes, what is this book? I'm very interested in reading it.

Oh it's a series for children, by Thea Beckman, a Dutch writer. I don't know what the title might be in English. She's also the author of Crusade in Jeans, a story set against the Children's crusades, but with a boy from our time joining them. Her 100 year war trilogy is mostly about Bertrand du Guesclin, but also about a fictional set of characters whose lives are intertwined with his.

I like Ken Follett, because you spend half of the novel wondering "is any of this true? Did it really happen?" Like for instance, he has a scene in World Without End where one of the nuns realizes that having sick people bunking with visitors in a hospital is bad and probably spreads disease. So they are then separated. His stuff is just fascinating to me!

How did you feel interrogated with the lights? Even though it was for MUN, I don't know how you did it with a straight face. I would have either had a panic attack or busted out laughing.
