Friday, June 30th, Day 57 - So yesterday it had taken the KFC half an hour or so to make my order, so to save time I thought I'd order online. For lunch once again I wasn't feeling like anything else. So at 12:55 I placed an order on the Ghanaian KFC website. There was nowhere to indicate that I'd pick it up, it just gave delivery options, so I indicated the nearest KFC (East Legon) as the delivery location and wrote in the comments section I'd just come pick it up. I'd assumed it would default to the nearest KFC, that seems logical right, but after I hit submit I saw it was coming out of the slightly further away Accra Mall KFC. Tried calling but both numbers I found didn't work (this may have been user error, I think later I figured out I need to input +233 before each number even though my phone is on a local sim card), oh well, I decided I'd just walk to the East Legon KFC and worst case scenario a delivery driver from Accra Mall delivers it there, which is kind of silly but whatever. Order supposed to be ready at 13:40
while I was walking there at 13:30 I got a call -- they were saying their delivery driver was out on another delivery and, it was hard to make out but I think he was saying he'd be twenty minutes late. I tried to ask if they could just transfer the order to East Legon KFC but of course they couldn't.
So I returned to my hotel. Around 14:20 I called the number that had called me and asked where my food was, he said the driver was on his way. Around 14:30 the driver himself called me, I hadn't had a chance heretofore to tell him my new location, when I said Ange Hill Hotel he hung up or was disconnected, didn't answer the call back. Shortly later Stephens (our media guy from last year) showed up with a colleague to interview me documentary style. we tried calling the driver several times again but he never answered. At Steven's colleague's urging we placed an entirely new order on a delivery app around 14:50. At 15:00 my original order finally arrived, just over two hours after I had placed it. We couldn't cancel the second order but it came promptly twenty minutes after placed and I paid for it and gave it to Stevens and his colleague.
But jesus two hours to get my order! From a place just barely over a mile away. Stevens' colleague advised me I definitely should have ordered on a delivery app rather than directly with the KFC and that definitely seemed true.
