Haha I've been on a flurry of friending still-active LJ users lately in a desperate search for continuing signs of life here.

With the most recent Russianization of LJ, a lot of people deserted it for DW. Some people (including me) had been originating all or most of their posts on DW and automagically cross-posting them to LJ since the previous kerfuffle, so no change was necessary. And some of my friends have stuck with LJ despite everything. I mostly default to DW these days, but I still read LJ as well, and I'll reply here to anything that's posted only here.

I'm curious as to how you found my LJ, and why you chose to friend me. Did you come here via one of my Australian friends?

Alas, it's not possible to originate a post on LJ and cross-post it to DW, so if you're going to use both journals you have to get into the habit of originating it on DW and auto-cross-posting it to LJ. And since the two journals have similar but not identical features, you sometimes have to edit your LJ post to make it look the same as your DW post. And you can't embed videos in comments on DW, although you can embed them in posts (i.e., you post a video of something cool, and I want to respond with another cool video, but all I can do is include a link, not embed the video into my comment. LJ still allows embeds in comments... I think.)

Hmmm. I can see how LJ would not want to facilitate crossposting from here to there on the theory it would encourage people to leave here, but in fact, since you can crosspost from there that's probably a major reason why so many people have started using that end as their primary!

As for Dreamwidth, if there was a way to cross platform I would do it more often, but it's been a headache for me. So I guess I will keep the light on for you for when you want to stop by LJ.

If you want to originate posts on LJ, the best you can do is go over to Dreamwidth and do an import.

Hmm Yeah I was thinking that, I can just hit import after a post an entry every time and that'll effectively crosspost yeah?

The disadvantage is that it's not automatic, but it does work.
