Bobby and Justin - Communication (don't faint)

Apr 26, 2006 14:14

Bobby puttered around the kitchen, humming along to the CD.

"...I've worn through the elbows
and the knees of my clothing
and I'm staring down the gravel
driveway of desire trying not to
wake up my sleeping self loathing..."He looked up at that. Frickin' serendipity. Bobby shook himself and cast his eyes over the room. The apartment was clean. ( Read more... )

Justin trotted up the steps, only mildly worried about this whole talking thing. It just hadn't felt right before. But now? He'd had no serious trauma for weeks, the Cube was gone, and he finally felt like he was getting his feet under him. And, hey, cookies. He tapped on the door lightly then rocked on his heels while he waited.

Bobby jerked out of his reverie at the knock on the door. J...

Half-bounding, half-walking, Bobby made it over to the door, letting Justin in. "Hey.." He looked Justin over. Yup. Still Justin. Still cute.

Still someone he'd fight for... Came the thought and his stomach fluttered.

"How ya doing?"

"Good. I'm doing good." He gave Bobby a once-over, not a sexual one for once, just a quick check to make sure he looked okay. And Bobby did look good. At least, physically. Mentally, however? He'd have to see.

He peeked around the apartment. "Wow, the place looks... clean."

"Yeah, we're both a little anal." Bobby looked over his shoulder as what he just said caught up with him. Okay, so his filters? Have gone out for coffee. Great.

"Um, I mean..." He winced "I was nervous. I cleaned. Twice."

Justin grinned and gave Bobby a quick brush on the cheek. "You didn't have to do that for me. You should see my..." Um, no Bobby shouldn't see his place. Justin might have to be a little more careful than he thought during this talk.

Then the rest of Bobby's statement caught up with him. "You're nervous?"

"Your place?" Bobby grinned. "You mean you actually live somewhere?"

Bobby turned, leading Justin into the apartment. Because standing in the doorway for the twenty minutes was -not- an effective way to control the awkward. "I thought you just appeared out of thin air if people said your name three times?"

He shot a look over his shoulder at Justin, one eyebrow quirked with the corner of his lips. "A little, less now. You?"

"Surprisingly nerve-free. Must be the offer of junk food." He grinned as he followed behind. And, okay, maybe now he was giving Bobby a slightly different type of once-over, but Bobby did have a cute butt and Justin felt totally justified.

Damn, Bruce was right. Bobby vaguely wondered if he had any topping to make milkshakes?

Justin had just totally skimmed over mentioning where he lived. Which was, well, his own business really. But still, it wrankled.

A glance snuck behind him told him -exactly- where Justin was at this moment. "You know if you stare at it long enough? You can make out pictures."

Justin pulled his eyes away and met Bobby's glance with a grin. "I may have to test that. So...." He moved up beside Bobby so as not to be distracted again, "do we eat first or talk first? Or do we multitask?"

"From what I recall?" Bobby smirked. "You multi-task pretty well."

"C'mon, I promised you cookies, and there's some kickass herbal tea." He headed into the kitchen, calling back over his shoulder. "And don't wrinkle your nose until you've -tried- it."

Justin got his nose-wrinkle out of the way while Bobby wasn't looking. Then he followed him into the kitchen, taking in the gleaming counters and shiny sink; the modern appliances and cupboards filled with food, dishes, and all the comforts of home; and actualfurniture.

For once, he was lusting after something that wasn't sex. An honest-to-goodness kitchen with real food. He leaned against the counter as he watched Bobby. "Do you need me to help?"

Bobby knew there'd be a nosewrinkle. It was Justin after all. "I promise, the tea isn't -that- bad, just, y'know. Try it." Bobby picked up the teapot.

"Cookies are on the bench," Bobby nodded towards the benchtop where a plate of peanut butter cookies sat. "I got all this stuff, so I figured, why not? Plus after the that dinner, and then the Triangle? I figured I should give you the opportunity to ask me lots of awkward questions." The tone in his voice was trying for light hearted.

Justin snagged a cookie and put it in his mouth as he took a seat, considering his words as he slowly chewed. Finally he swallowed and looked up. "Okay. I have a question." Holding Bobby's eyes, he asked, "How are you doing? And I mean that as, how are you doing really, not that polite 'I'm fine, how are you' type answer."

Bobby looked up from where he was pouring the tea. The scent of the vanilla rooibos lingered in his senses. It was warm, and homey. Weird...but homey.

"I'm a little rattled, to be honest. Seeing Scott threw me." Bobby shrugged, passing the mug of tea over. "He used to be, like...my big brother. When my mutation manifested, he and his fiance were the ones who found me freaking out over the school bully half frozen into a snowbank.

When my parents finally sent me to the school, I was the first student there after all the teacher's had graduated. Scott was my teacher, but he was basically my friend."

Justin frowned. "But seeing a friend from back home should be a good thing, right? And it's not like alternate timelines would be a shock to you. So...I take it there's more to this than what you've said so far?"

Bobby blushed, dropping his head to hide the look on his face.

"I sorta used to hero worship him. He was cool, had the hot fiancee, led the Team," The capital 'T' was apparent in his voice. "All the kids knew it. They called me the 'Mansion Mascot', there the longest, got special treatment, knew the the place inside and out...

So when the place got raided, by the army and Johnny left. I got the blame. Mini-Scott and his traitor boyfriend."
