Anakin, leaving a note for a dozing Rory, had snuck out of his room just before dawn and headed first to the weapons locker, then to the beach to watch the sunrise

"It took some time and a little convincing from my friends still after we broke up," Rory replied. "I didn't want to mess up what we already had."

Anakin reached for her hand. "But this was better."

Rory nodded, squeezing his hand. "I loved our friendship, but I don't think it went away just because we fell in love."

"I don't either," Anakin agreed, nudging his nose against hers. "I just get to kiss you now, too."

Rory went up on her toes and kissed him. "Yes."

Anakin cupped her face in his hands and deepened the kiss.

Time was running out. He wasn't going to have many more chances to do it.

Rory wrapped her arms around his neck, clinging and kissing him as much as she could.

"I love you," Anakin murmured, pressing her against the tree.

"Love you, too," Rory replied into the kiss, moving her hands to cup his face.

Anakin ignored the tears that were beginning to spill down his cheeks again.

"That a promise?" he asked.

"It's something I believe more than anything I've ever known," she said softly, tears brimming in her own eyes. "Does that work?"

Anakin reached out and touched Rory's cheek. "It's perfect," he whispered.

"I don't want it to be the time it is," Rory mumbled, leaning into him.

"I know," he replied, pulling her closer. "But we can't stop it, my love."

"If I don't let go you can't leave."

Perfectly logical.

Anakin rested his cheek against the top of Rory's head. "I wish it worked that way," he whispered.
