He didn't have to wait very long.

Rory, puffy-eyed and pale, made her way into the clearing wearing last night's clothes.

"Hi. Sorry for sleeping."

"I didn't want to miss anything," she said apologetically. "You should've woken me."

She looked around the clearing. "I'm not going to be able to come here for awhile," she said hollowly, as though she was stating a simple fact.

Anakin bit his lip and gestured at the tree. "Don't suppose this will help things much, huh?"

Rory blinked and stepped a little closer so she could read it.

"Oh, Anakin," she whispered hoarsely, rubbing her thumbs over her eyes.

Rory held on tightly, swallowing hard and willing herself not to cry.

It didn't go very well, if that wet patch on the front of Anakin's robe was any indication.

Anakin wasn't even pretending not to cry.

He figured he'd need to do it now since the Jedi would ask questions if he did it later.

Anakin let out a shaky laugh and wiped at his eyes. "I wish I could, my love."

Rory knew it was useless, but if she gave up her tiny sliver of hope, she wasn't sure what would happen.
