Obi-Wan's Revenge [Tuesday, late afternoon] [NFB]

Dec 20, 2005 14:09

Anakin walked into his room from Criminal Justice class with a bounce in his step.

He immediately stopped bouncing when he noticed that there was a holo from home waiting for him.

Force, he hoped it wasn't from Master Windu.

His stomach twisting nervously, Anakin pushed the button to play the transmission.

When the transmission holo flickered into focus, Obi-Wan was standing still and serene in his Jedi robes, hands tucked into the voluminous sleeves - in short, quintessentially Jedi.

Anakin could suddenly breathe again. Well, until the transmission started speaking.

"Hello, Anakin. I'm sure you've been very busy with finals and the cultural pageant you mentioned in your last transmission, which I'm quite keen to hear about when you return. Did the school make any recordings of it? I imagine that would be an excellent fund-raiser, sold to the students' guardians."

Anakin groaned and hoped the pirate didn't have any brilliant ideas for the last two days of the term.

"I thought since you'll be home soon for long enough to help me with some short-term assignments, I should catch you up with current developments here." Obi-Wan launched into a long-winded report of some of his recent missions and negotiations, Senate developments, and Temple minutae. It's excruciatingly boring. There's the occasional piece of interesting information, such as some time spent consulting with Senator Amidala on a treaty between the third and fifth houses of the royal Cestacean court, though he didn't mention if she asked after Anakin or sent her regards.

Anakin twitched nervously, waiting for the other boot to drop. He put the thoughts of Padmé out of his mind.

Obi-Wan seemed to be winding down when the glint in his eye grew somewhat more pronounced. A hint of amusement remained, though it's undercut with a bite of steel. "Oh, I nearly forgot. The young woman you bought for me - you needn't worry about her, if you were worrying. Lovely girl, Jill is - that's her real name, by the way - she's quite fascinated by the Temple. I took a few days to show her around, and we had some wonderful conversations. It turns out she shows signs of some faint Force sensitivity. Not enough to be trained as a Jedi, even if we had found her as a child, but she's pleased, nevertheless. She's petitioned the Council to serve as an acolyte in the Temple. Something about the ascetic simplicity appealed to her, she said, after her last line of work. Master Yoda is quite impressed by her devotion."

Anakin groaned again. Only Obi-Wan would find a way to take a stripper and turn her into a Temple acolyte in a less than a week. "She wasn't bought," he muttered at the transmission, fully aware that Obi-Wan couldn't hear him. "She was rented. You were supposed to send her back."

Obi-Wan began speaking again. "I'll see you shortly, Anakin. I rather think we have some interesting conversations coming up. May the Force be with you." Something that sounded suspiciously like a muttered "you'll certainly need it" came through the transmission shortly before it shut off.

"Blast," Anakin muttered.

And began packing. It was going to be a long break at home.
