Dating: An Essay

Question: What ever happened to dating? No one dates anymore. They just meet, and then bam, the next thing you know they're a couple. There is no first date, and then a second, and then a few more. Relationships are just too sudden. That's not the way it's supposed to work, it's so, Junior High.
But even in high school people didn't date. They hung out in crowds with mutual friends, and just came to be a couple. The tribe excepted these two separate people as one.
In college, people seemed to date a little more, but even then, it seemed like the relationships just sprang out of nowhere.
I want a guy to ask me out, and when he does I want him to mean that we should grab dinner and movie, or something of the likes of that, not for me to be his girlfriend.
And maybe if myself and this gentleman enjoy the first date there will be a second. And then a third, and maybe a couple more, and then maybe we can become a couple.
It shouldn't happen overnight.
