Hmm. I haven't posted in a while, and I'm feeling all talkative (or typative?), so I guess a post is in order.
Things are quiet on the job front. Hopefully I'll get a few more invitations to interview soon. I would like to get a job by April so that I can be sure I'll be done training in time for Jennifer's wedding. We'll see. I do have a bit of help in my corner now thanks to a friend of Dad's who has some pull in Human Services. She said she'll put in a good word next time I interview.
I also have a few more jobs I need to test out for. I'm going to have to try to get around to that soon. Don't know if I posted about it, but a Canadian guy hit my car while we were in Jackson after Christmas, and we just now finally got it into the body shop. So that's kind of foiled my testing plans of late. I have a rental (2006 Nissan Altima) but i don't like it. I probably would have liked it better if they hadn't given me a 2006 Nissan Aramada (which I did like...probably too much) for the first few days and then traded me out for the Altima. I do know now that I can in fact drive a vehicle that big, so that makes me happy. I am totally prepared for suburban housewifery! Huzzah!
Speaking of housewifery, I have had some serious baby fever lately. I swear like EVERYWHERE I look people are popping out little mini-me's like crazy. The low wail of my hormones is slowly turning into an earth shattering screech. The good news is, between that and the wedding I've gained a serious renewed interest in losing weight. We're planning on buying an exercise bike soon, and I'm going to work on dropping the calories again.
In other news, I let Cliff buy a 37" widescreen HD LCD flatpanel TV for valentines day. Our old 27" was slowly dying. We switched over to Comcast and got HD programing with the Starz, HBO, and Showtime packages, all with On Demand features. Mmmmm. Real Sex on demand in HD. I am most pleased. Oh and all the animals jumping around on the Discovery HD channel are cool too. Now I can get back to nature without leaving the couch!
I started work on Jennifer's wedding invitations today. I think they are going to turn out well. It kind of made me remember why I enjoy designing in the first place.
I think I'm going to apply for a few more Design jobs tomorow. I also applied for one with the state. Maybe nothing will come of it, but at least I'll have given it a shot. After the letdown I had last year with the Daily News Journal (their decision not to even consider hiring me for THREE different designer postions) and then all the drama with the cars afterwards, I just kind of gave up on the whole designer thing. I figured if the people who had actually seen what I can do didn't want me, then why would anyone else? After looking at my work with fresh eyes, I've finally decided that the people at the DNJ are just assholes who missed out on a good opportunity. I may not be the best designer ever, but I'm certianly not the worst. Giving up is not the answer.
Hmm. What else? I have to get fitted for my bridesmaid dress soon. Which means another trip to Jackson. Hopefully I can finish up the invitations and have Alycia print them while we're down there, and maybe Jen and I can meet with the cake decorator. This whole wedding thing is already making my head spin and it's not even March! Also, Cliff and I have to try to find a good karaoke version of Shania Twain's From This Moment On. I want the actual music from the song- not some crappy piano or midi version. We're singing it at the wedding. I think we're also going to have to get the sheet music so Cliff can pick out the harmony. If anybody has any resources for those sorts of things, I'd like to hear about it.
I'm really glad now that Jennifer is doing this first. I knew this sort of thing was difficult, but even so I wasn't prepared. I'm glad I'll have some experience under my belt when it comes time for planning my own bash in May of 2008 (which i will probably starton right after this one's finished). If I've learned one thing, it's that weddings are expensive. Sometime soon I'm going to have to talk to Daddy about a budget. I'm hoping it's after my cousin Courtney gets married, because I'll bet her and my aunt will be doing it up right. Then if my uncle Mike happens to share the cost of the whole thing with Dad, maybe he'll have a better idea of what kind of money we're talking about. I'm also hoping it'll be after he's done with this CD, so he'll actually have some money.
Hmm. Well I think I'm all talked (or typed) out now.
Good night, all.
