No, we felt it would be better for her if she died with people she was comfortable with and who she knew cared a lot about her. Sometimes I regret not getting her to sleep because she just got so bad that she couldn't even walk or stand up anymore. We had to pick her up and help her walk. It wasn't so bad because she weighed next to nothing (she was an airdale terrior, so she was a medium sized dog). That's how our pets die. I just wish we could talk to them and ask them what they wanted because we can't know if they would rather be put down or if they'd like to die on their own. She was 14 when she died, I think it was the day after her 14th birthday, too. My mom said that she remembered hearing Brandy barking happily the night after she died, so we knew she was happy wherever she ended up (Doggy Heaven?). I still miss her a lot, though.
Sometimes it is best to put pets down, if they just get so bad and you know they're in a lot of pain. I'm sure you guys made the right decision. He knows he was well loved.
wow freaky... they told us on her 14th birthday too.. and we went the next day. she's had tumors forever but they werent confirmed as cancerous until a few months ago. she was blind and deaf and in pain and yeah... but we were all there. her four kids and two parents :) so i doubt she could even see the vet. ah. yeah. so hard.
