Book 13/52: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Aug 24, 2010 22:54

Over the course of 24 hours, I managed to finish re-reading Goblet of Fire and then started AND finished Mockingjay. About 550 pages in all. My brain? Is fried. FRIIIIIIIIIIIIIED.

But in a good, book-wormy way.

I wish I had made this entry last night after I finished the book, but I had already begun my internet embargo (Mockingjay spoilerssssss!). Oh well.

Usually, when I re-read GoF, I skip the part in the middle where Ron is all emo and jealous because it's boring. I wanted to do that again this time around, but decided to carry on. That part was still boring. And I suppose it was supposed to be that way. Even Harry mentions that chilling with Hermione is kind of boring. I have to wonder what Harry/Hermione shippers were smoking when they decided those two had any kind of romantic chemistry.

One thing that I like about re-reading the series is seeing how the different parts and pieces of the plot start coming into play. Neville, for instance. In the first three books, he's the accident-prone, forgetful boy in Harry's dorm. He doesn't usually get a lot of attention (at least the good kind). In Goblet of Fire, we get more character development, learning why he's raised by his grandmother. I always liked Neville (hell, I knew he was a secret bad ass back when one popular theory was that he would turn against Harry), so it's fun to watch his character growth.

I had more thoughts, but they were lost when my brain was MELTED.

On a related note, check out Mark Reads Harry Potter. This guy is reading Harry Potter for the first time, and he's posting chapter by chapter reviews/thoughts/freak outs, about one per day. He's up to Chapter 3 in Order of the Phoenix. I also like reading the comments because sometimes there are awesome macros to steal.
