Season Premieres and DVDs.

Today The Office Season 2 dvds come out, and I'm so excited! So I figured this would be a good time to share my predictions for the season premiere of one of my favorite shows. I'll probably also mention something about Gilmore Girls, but I'm a bit bummed out with the direction of that show lately...

Okay. When we last left our favorite Scranton-ites, Angela had slapped Dwight for kissing her (and she smiled afterwards, which seemed like some sort of S&M thing), Michael had "two queens" and chose Carol (his real-life wife) over Jan, Jim had talked to Jan about transferring to Stamford...and kissed and told Pam he loved her. So. Where do we go from there?

We know a few things about next season based on casting: there are lots of new staff members, including Rashida Jones (who used to or still does date John Krasinski in real life? I don't know...). And I've heard so much speculation about whether Jim and Pam ran off together... if he's going to transfer... if she got married. Everything. But I have a few theories, and they're heavily based on the UK series (because I watched that religiously).

Jim transferred, but the Stamford branch is downsized over the summer -- or in the first episode -- into the Scranton Branch. He and Pam obviously didn't do anything. There was probably some, "I really can't..." stuff -- typical Jim-Pam stuff -- after the kiss, but they parted as friends because they're forever in love and really can't do anything about it. While Jim was at the other branch, he hooked up with Rashida's character, who's not shallow and rather ditzy like Katy but a genuine love-interest -- real competition for Pam. They both transfer to Scranton, so Pam's stuck watching them flirt all day...which would suck. But she's going to have to go through the same thing Jim's gone through for the past 3 years... even worse, though, because Roy's in the warehouse while Jim's gf would be in the office w/ him.

Now... Pam's wedding. My biggest fear about the season premiere is finding out that she got married. That would just plain suck. I don't care if she broke up with Roy or not. If she's still with him, fine... I just hope she postponed the wedding. Or that something came up that forced a postponement. I would love it if Roy got in an accident or something and it was postponed becuase of that... but that's not realistic. All I know is that the writers told David Denman, who plays Roy, not to shave...so there's gotta be some reason for that -- and I don't know that Roy would be so depressed about Pam postponing the wedding or breaking up w/ him or something to grow a beard...he's not that type of guy. And I don't believe the writers would script the type of accident or depression worthy of a beard. So I'm not sure. Also, John Krasinski said that the episode basically highlights what would happen with real people in a real situation... like, how two regular people would handle that situation. Keeping that in mind, I think they part as friends, and they come back together as really good friends. And I'll just hope that Pam and Roy postponed their wedding (I mean... you've been engaged for 3 years... what's another year?).

The best thing about the show is watching the characters evolve. Jim has to grow up and move out of that rut of sitting at his desk and just pestering Dwight. He has to figure out who he is. Same goes with Pam. She's not ready for a relationship with Jim. She has to conquer the fear of chasing her dreams and find the courage within herself to chase what she wants -- like being an artist... and Jim. I have complete confidence that they'll end up together eventually... I'm just going to enjoy the ride.

And as for Gilmore Girls... after last year's incredibly depressing season (Rory and Lorelai fighting, Rory with Logan, Lorelai and Luke fighting, Luke's surprise child, postponing the wedding...), I'm looking forward to a better year. That being said, I hate where the season has to begin: Lorelai in Christopher's bed. Ridiculously stupid move... on the part of Lorelai but I'm throwing the blame on the writing. The Palladino's (who created and wrote every episode since the show's inception) have now left the show... so I'm excited to see where the new show runner's gonna take things. My hopes? Rory ends up with someone better for her than slick Logan, Luke stops being stupid and runs after Lorelai, and some great understanding between Lorelai and Emily. The characters are so rich on the show -- particularly the Gilmore women... I'm always excited to see where their lives lead.

Anyway, so those are my thoughts on my favorite shows. I have to get up super-dooper early to head to Target and pick up my DVD. Why Target instead of Walmart (which is in town)? Because Target has a bonus DVD of home-videos Jenna Fischer taped while filming the "Booze Cruise" episode. I almost went to circuit city cause they have it for $30 -- and it comes with 3 downloadable office cell phone games. Or Best Buy, who had an office "kit" -- the dvd with Dunder-Mifflin pen, notepad, monthly organizer, and post-its in a commemorative box. But that was forty-something dollars... and the Target one is only, like, $32 (which is what I was going to pay if I purchased it from Amazon.com as originally intended). And I hear the booze-cruise version is a limited-edition thing... and I've been reading about tons of people going there first thing in the morning. Target opens at 8am... it's gonna take me 30 minutes to get there...

Ugh, I have to go to bed... but at least I know what I'll be doing all day Tuesday.
