A New Rec List Thingy
Since reading fic/watching TV has been pretty much all I'm good for in the last few weeks (depression and now anaemia too) I thought I'd make a post sharing all the fics/vids/etc I've been enjoying. Since I'm only a semi-regular reviewer it'll also be my way of giving kudos to the awesome writers out there.
These aren't my all time favourite fics - just what I've been reading and liked. And I'll add some random vids that amuse me too.
Fics - Sherlock
The Long Drive (and it's follow-ups) by stupid_drawings
Summary: Sherlock, John, and Lestrade on a road trip together, stuck in the same car for hours.
Comments: This made me LOL over and over. I know it's be recced everywhere - and deservedly - so if you haven't read these please do.
Forty-Three Days by starjenni
Summary: Sherlock doesn't have sex on a case. This one lasts six weeks (or forty-three days to be exact). UST abound!
Comments: Self denial is one of my biggest kinks.
The Plan by blind_author
Summary: John had a plan, and it's name was Get Some Sex. And the capitals were most certainly necessary.
Comments: Everything this author touches turns to gold. The Republic of Heaven remains one of my favourite fics (and dear god, if you haven't read that DO. Even if you know nothing about His Dark Materials.) This fic is cute, short and funny.
In Your Memory by yminga
Summary: When he wakes up and tries to remember why he's in the hospital, he can't. There's a man - obviously a doctor - standing at the foot of his bed, so he stares at him and tries to understand. Truths, however, aren't always that easy to deduce.
Comments: As I was reading this there was a point where I thought 'if I was writing this I know what I'd do - but I'm a complete darkfic bitch and I doubt the author will go that way'. Imagine my surprise when the author not only went that way, but added ANOTHER LAYER to what was already a dark twist.
Not So Potluck by bwblack
Summary: Mummy writes a letter explaining her expectations for the upcoming holiday get together.
Comments: The author doesn't say, but I'm pretty sure this fic was based on a real letter I once saw on failblog or one of its sites where the letter writer gives obsessively detailed and quite rude instructions to various family members. This letter is even better than that because it's written by a Holmes.
Performance in a Leading Role bymadlorific [WIP]
Summary: Sherlock Holmes is an Oscar winner in the midst of a career slump. John Watson is an Everyman actor trapped in the rom-com ghetto. When they are cast as a gay couple in a new independent drama, will they surprise each other? Will their on-screen romance make its way into the real world?
Comments: I have a confession - I LOVE filmstar AUs. They're common in the Merlin fandom, not so much in the Sherlock one. This one is brilliant - in a 'wait for an update all day' kind of way. All you need to know is that it's an unemotional-acting-by-imitation Sherlock befriending a secretly-BAMF-actor John and neither of them having a clue about the mystic shit Ang Lee is telling them. If that hasn't sold you nothing will.
Obligatory Mummy Fic by xixie
Summary: Sherlock's got a boyfriend. Mummy must be informed. Mycroft has lunch with his mother.
Comments: This is soo cute. I love 3rd POV style fic and this one is very touching.
The Third Holmes Brother by wallhaditcoming
Summary: I'd like to see a story with a third Holmes sibling. Emrys Holmes AKA Colin Morgan!
Comments: Are you seriously going to pass up a chance for a Merlin crossover?!
Sing All You Want by errantcomment
Summary: Sherlock lives alone in 221B. John is one of Mrs Turner's 'married ones' next door. Almost every day he sees the doctor limping home...
Comments: Ah the old abused!John trope. This is a particularly good version.
Sherlock is a professional matchmaker by anon [WIP]
Summary: Sherlock is a matchmaker in need of a fake boyfriend.
Comments: I remember being very tempted to take this prompt up myself, but didn't. I'm glad I didn't because they've done a far better job than I would have.
Friends With Benefits by yalublyutebya
Summary: Friends with benefits. It was a brilliant plan, but like all brilliant plans, it was doomed to fail.
Comments: HOT and HOT. Also a very good take on what is quite a common fic trope.
Fics - Merlin
Waking Dream by faorism
Summary: In which Arthur not only prepares his acceptance speech using a multitude of index cards, but does so while dutifully ignoring Merlin. (This, after all, is what any potential presidant would do in his situation)
Comments: I adore presidential/prime minister AUs - ever since I read an X-Files one when I was much younger. Unfortunately they are thin on the ground, so I got very excited over this.
The Secret We Share by lady_drose_sd
Summary: Merlin and Arthur met when they were eight years old. This story follow their friendship trough the years.
Comments: One of those stories that make you go 'ahhh' and also 'guuuh'.

Want to see the slashiest video you'll ever see in your life? What's even better is that it's not even edited that way - it's just how it is on the SHOW (the two lead male characters got married at the end). If you've never watched Boston Legal watch this!
One of Eddie Izzard's funniest scenes. He does a routine in french and it's STILL funny even if you can't speak french.
I've recently got into Dexter and I have to say this is the most beautiful/hypnotic opening of any TV show ever...
So that's it folks. A bit random but hopefully something there for everyone.
Just hope I can feel better soon and get back into the writing groove.
