Will get around to finishing/posting the 8.05 & 8.06 recaps/commentaries sometime within the next few days--Diwali weekend is coming up, so I'll get to them in between the fireworks and hogging on my grandmother's cooking.

About Supernatural! Some quick thoughts. SPOILERS under the cut.

Haha, there was so much YOU BOTH NEED TO STFU NOW last night. I'm not letting Dean off the hook just because he was possessed. Like Sam pointed out, the feelings were there. And as Garth-ex-machina as Garth's immunity was, it DOES add weight to that argument. Garth had no hurt/angry thoughts to exploit. Dean did ( ... )

Well, Sam and Dean had VERY disrupted educations. I never had a proper school course in American History up to the Civil War because my elementary and high school education went through grade 8 and then 9-12, but the high school I went to actually started Upper School in 8th grade and did the first half of their basic American History survey then. (And my grade school didn't really educate people at all, not in anything as substantial as history -- I'm sure Sam and Dean had some doozies among their schools as well). And that's just a single school switch mismatch. Sam and Dean were switching every few months. I don't find it at all surprising that they'd have major gaps in the usual curriculum.

That's true. I didn't consider that, but I can see it now. Education can be so odd depending on where you receive it too. I know waaaaay more about New Jersey colonial history than is probably necessary even though I grew up in Pennsylvania just because I happened to be in school in NJ for that particular unit.

I'm just thrilled that Sam didn't sit there and take it and do the kicked-puppy-unworthy-of-Saint-Dean routine.

I cheered right up when Sam actually did some hollering. I was so worried that they'd undercut his lines before the end, but they just ended it there!

I also rather liked the irrationality of influenced-Dean's accusations. Nutty bitter feelings of betrayal I have had, let me show you them! But I wish the boys could grasp the concept of mixed feelings.

I absolutely loved that Sam showed backbone in that last scene.

It still bothers me that Garth was the only one who touched the coin who didn't bear any grudges. I mean, for everybody else, it was about these little things that they've let fester that finally led them to incredibly violent acts under the coin's influence. How come Garth's so Zen he doesn't even have the tiniest bit of ill-feeling towards anybody? (But then again, I'm the kind of person who holds grudges for YEARS and resents stuff like nobody's business, so, yeah.)

I just don't think Liane Balaban and Jared have any chemistry. They both barely emote when they're on screen together. Half their lines are in monotone. I can understand Sam's fondness for her, but I'm still not getting a "great love of his life" vibe. :/Me neither. I agree that they don't have incredible chemistry--a lot of it is awkward, forced, ragged. But I don't think Sam and Amelia ever had a romantic relationship. Sure, they've probably had sex--but that doesn't exactly equal romance, more so ( ... )
