In which I'm not sure how to title this.

It's been a while since I've checked LJ--a little over two weeks, in fact. I've been busy moving to the on-campus hostel, then flooded with work at the hospital/exams, and, well. No time to write. Or read, really. The most I've done is read a handful of springfling fics (which were brilliant without exception. Okay, one: mine.) It's been great, though--I'm getting a lot more work done these days, and am feeling more confident than ever. (Also, my new roomie is awesome.)

But! My summergen fic lies half-complete, and I have the sinking feeling that I'm going to have to request an extension for the deadline. Oh, well.

Also, looking at the unorganised verbiage about Robo!Sam in my previous post, I've hit upon the perfect analogy: Robo!Sam is a cancer. He is, in a way, Sam in a perfected form--geared toward survival and throwing away the parts that aren't necessary for this. A cancer cell develops primarily through mutations, activating proto-oncogenes into oncogenes, and inactivating tumour suppressor genes, thereby disabling mechanisms that tightly regulate its growth. Robo!Sam doesn't have a soul. He doesn't waste time with extraneous matters like sleep, or emotion, or moral dilemmas. He co-opts Sam's intelligence, his skill as a hunter and as an observer and amplifies them. He tricks Sam's usual support systems--Dean, Bobby, the Campbells--into believing him, implants himself among them, then continues to thrive. He can tackle and obliterate the parts of him that are still normal, that still have a soul--and even defeated, he lies dormant, waiting to roar back with a vengeance. He is a super-Sam--a deranged, unregulated version of Sam, a cancerous being.

It's a notion that's both terrifying and beautiful.

Also: why am I musing on Robo!Sam so much lately, you ask? Well, the aforementioned half-finished fic features him prominently, and my mind likes to wander every now and then when I revisit my pathology textbooks.

Anyway! Hi, flist! I kinda miss the ritual of browsing my f-page every morning in the bus. How're you guys?
