re #7.5- that was actually pretty funny. My hubby- who is often the Dean to my Sam - yelled out Whoa! When Sam told Dean to shut up and then followed it up with "Nobody puts Sam in a corner!" (then we observed that it might be hard to corner Sam because he's a moose, etc, though he does get choked all the time by tiny tiny people which is really rather silly-looking)
re #11.5 - YES. I <3 Sam on his own. Sam makes bad judgement calls sometimes when he is on his own- and they are AWESOME. I welcome any form of desperate crazy shenanigans and just hope that the writers give it time to play out in all of its twisted glory!
re #12.5 I'm pretty sure they do. There's a statue of Sam in front of Lucifer's cage (right next to the "Don't feed the Angels" sign) and Dean's statue is in Alistair's workshop. It's made out of flesh and bone.
Thank you for linking those tweets. They do make me feel somewhat better.
Though I wish they'd stop talking about writing lighter eps. It's not overall darkness that's their problem, it's the fact that they've forgotten how to do a Mystery Spot like mix of tone and instead alternate often excellent angst with cringey comedy in indigestible chunks.
Though that may partly be Edlund affecting them -- he's an amazing writer, but to me he's much, much better at drama than at comedy.
LOL this is how I feel about all sitcoms lately. Luckily, Jeremy Carver - the writer of Mystery Spot, is coming back ; )
Though that may partly be Edlund affecting them -- he's an amazing writer, but to me he's much, much better at drama than at comedy. This is a good point. I completely agree. "On the Head of a Pin" and "My Bloody Valentine" - both phenomenal episodes. Two of my favorites. What Edlund excels at is dark humor. That's what made both of those episodes so damn good-he went deep into the dark, and his humor was biting. That's why I love him. I know a lot of people raved about his Castiel episodes too, but to me they're nowhere near as good as OTHOAP and MBV (I particularly miss Edlund's vision of Sam at his darkest- it's my favorite).

Holy bulls-eye, Batman...that's EXACTLY my take on it. Except I don't feel that's Edlund's doing; his dialog is crisp and snarky and always makes me grin. He nails the dark humor, IMHO. I honestly think it's certain writers forgetting what makes for a good episode. It feels like they're focusing so much on tv show semantics and "WHOA MAH GAWD, WE GOTS SO MUCH PLOT!" that they forget to explore character growth and emotional connection with the audience.
I also think the editing and fx have gotten uninspired. But I really do hold high hopes that Season Eight will revisit what we used to love about the show and step up its game!
Urgh, THANK YOU for that link. It's a bit of a relief. :DDDDD
he does get choked all the time by tiny tiny people
How can he help it if everybody is tiny by comparison? :(
Sam on his own is awesome--but I wonder if it'll be different from s4!Sam. He must've learned from his past mistakes, so I wonder what version of Sam we'll meet in s8. Oooooh. *rubs hands in glee*

LOL it's true- it's not easy being a moose. I have stupid limitations to my suspension of disbelief - no issues with the mechanics of Sam's powers, or being a vessel for the Devil, or even the idea that a man that size could survive on salads (clearly this is due to the demon blood supplementation) - but I draw the line at tiny hands choking large necks.

And they are worshiped everyday. As they should be. I also imagine at Lucifer's Cage and Sam's statue there are some demons who come by and graffiti everything and then another loyalist group that diligently cleans off the graffiti every day.

This has been my head-canon for years--Sam's muscle-spurt (lol, forgive my poor terminology) coincided with s4, reached its peak in s5, then gradually toned down over s6 and s7. It all fits, y'see.

It's a big point of contention between the Lucifer loyalists and the Crowley supporters. It's the image of the man their saviour was supposed to appear in... and was ultimately defeated by. That statue holds strange and powerful significance for the demons.

LOL it does fit! That's fine you can use the term- "muscle-spurt". quickreaver and I were talking about "stealth-muscle" last night because Jared looks so scrawny lately (we like him on the bigger side) but then those pics in Rio came out ::points at icon:: and it's like WHABAM! So you know, stealth-muscle. ; )

Stealth-muscle is an excellent term. I still remember watching s1 for the first time, thinking, Sam is good-looking and all but really freakin scrawny, then WHAM. Out came the shirtless scene in Hell House, and I spent the rest of the episode looking for my missing jaw. :p He's been looking thin and tired this season, true, but those beach pictures goddamn. *_*
Haha, I don't prefer too much muscle--I love Sam's build as it is now.
This episode is inspiring ALL of the plot bunnies! We really ought to. :D
