Mizzou summer welcome is this coming tuesday/wednesday. I'm a little bit nervous just because i really have no clue what I should be taking course wise. I'm hoping someone will be there to advise me. Hopefully I won't get lost in the system and end up with useless crap that I don't need and somehow skip the important classes. I think I am

There should be someone there to meet with you to advise you on classes. They usually steer you toward taking classes that you'll have to take as requirements for graduation, anyway. So, my guess is that you'll end up with:
• a math class
• an English class
• maybe a foreign language class
• a history or psychology class, like American History or Pollitical Science
I imagine that they'll test you for Math and English, unless they just go by your ACT scores?
For my first semester, because I hadn't taken French as a senior, and had taken a yearr off between HS and college, I thought I had forgotten all of my 3 years of French. So, I took French-1 (!!)... if you do have that foreign language requirement, I'd really say that you could go into French 2, because it will all come back to you. If you took French 3 with me (you DID take French 3, didn't you??) for college credit, though, you'll not even be allowed to take French 1, since it's already been taken (only the case if you took it for college credit).
They usually sign you up for 15 hours, which usually means five 3-hour classes. Most college courses are 3-hour (=3 credit), meaning that they meet 3 times per week. Some intro classes, like French 1 or French 2, are 5-hour, and therefore meet 5 days per week. When I took French 1, it was at 7:30 a.m., 5 days per week! I was the ONLY one in my dorm, I think, who had to get up for a stinkin' 7:30 a.m. class everyday, and my friends laughed at my silly Freshman naiveté at signing up for such an early class :)) I also took a European or Western Civ type history class that was not intended for Freshmen, really, and I shouldn't have... I needed better background, and better skills at paper writing. YOU should do very well at the frequent paper writing that will happen at college... being able to organize your thoughts and supports for 2-3 page papers is one of THE keys to college success. YOU should shine above many typical Mizzou Freshmen. You'll be a star, I bet! :)
