Quick thoughts on Legend of Korra: Endgame

It was kind of...not great.  I don't know.  It wasn't awful?  I probably would have been a lot more disappointed if I hadn't figured out a few episodes back that it wasn't going to even out though.  Still, even the character resolutions I liked felt kind of cheap in how they played out.  If you liked it, let me know!  My feelings on the whole thing are still pretty uncertain.

- That was a gorgeous scene with all the Avatars though and then KORRA AND LIN HAVE THEIR BENDING BACK!  Which was probably a necessary happiness after Tarrlok blew up the boat right before.  It's rushed too, but whatever, I love it because now I don't have to try and trust the show through both of them staying bending-less, even short term.

- Argh, and the politics were a huge let down, even for a show that's marketed to preteens.   I knew that they would be before this one, but seriously.  All broad good and evil sketches that still feel manipulative because the whole story is still coming from the benders who hold the power and they never really DEALT with the repercussions there.  Maybe they will next season, probably not.

I also kept waiting for them to prove wrong most of the "Is The Legend of Korra anti-science" article and they...didn't.  So there's that too.

- Done with Mako and his apparently magnificent bending powers, done with love triangles, just ugh.  It was horribly predictable and boring all along, but having every interaction between Korra and Asami be about Mako (and really Asami's role was only "look sad" and "be angry") made me actively angry at it.  And it's another thing that really undercut Korra's own storyline and personal growth.

- Republic City citizens react amazingly well on cue and then conveniently disappear for the action!  I think most of the Equalist members probably functioned off cheer cue cards.

- Hearing Dante Basco's voice as General Iroh is just *distracting*.  He probably didn't show any signs of actually developing a character yet, but I wouldn't know because I kept expecting to see Zuko and missing his actual lines.

- Hi Bumi!  Takes after his namesake apparently.  Did Aang and Katara have any other kids?

- Oh! Korra's parents showed up!  That was really nice to see.

- Ugh, whenever I do a season recap I swear I will include more things I liked.

ETA: grav_ity WROTE FIC!  Lin reaction fic during the finale even!  It's amazing!

In other things, have an Avenger's fic rec: Congratulations on Your Birthday.  It's the life of Natasha Romanov, seen on birthdays from 5 to 35 and a brilliant character piece that doesn't define her by the life-changing moments, but the fallout and effects of those over time.

nicole_anell also has a amazing liveblog of Thor here that I completely endorse!  Because Thor's ridiculously entertaining with ladies in practical armor, lots of men crying, women of science!, and Chris Hemsworth shirtless.  Asgard's this hilarious techno-rainbow society where everybody rides horses and behaves badly.  They apparently have flamethower robots too.  Also, everything!

There's some pretty good fic in the fandom too, which mashes comics I don't know and Norse mythology I know less about into something you almost don't need to watch the movie to read, it's so geared to new people.  Also, often highly AU.  A good chuck of it isn't my thing, but there's enough I should type up a decent rec list soon.
