1) Nope, Q is not for me. :) I wasn't a fan of Avery Brook's acting the first couple because it kind of freaked me out that he wouldn't emote with his eyes. But we're good by now, I liked him in this last one a lot. Jadzia Dax is probably my favorite single character right now, but I like where Kira's set up on the show? Lots of potential for things to happen. :)

2) Sorry, I did mix in a lot from both the books and movie here, it's a blended review. I think the casting did ask for a Caucasian actress specifically though, so it seems like they limited their pool from the beginning. But, yeah Jennifer Lawrence is extremely talented and I thought all of the actors did a good job fleshing out what they could. There wasn't so much outside of Katniss and Peeta to work with, character-wise. Fast movie.

The dystopia part never made as much sense to me, I just can't figure out how this world actually holds together.

Yep, Rue and Thresh were District 11. Rue has her mini-Spiderman act and Thresh in the books at least has smarts and other skills to back up them being a good team if the announcement about two Viktors came just a bit sooner. Katniss had all these heroic moments, but one of the things we were talking about afterward is if how others could have sparked revolt or if Katniss could have done the same without making it out of the arena. (I have a head canon that, because I can't believe 12 year olds ever show up in the Arena, that most Districts in the past rigged it so they wouldn't (Volunteers, extra allotments, etc). Of course the Capitol probably did something extra awful to stop the practice and that's why you have Rue and almost Primrose selected for this one.) Tiny Rue, with Katniss' pin and her Mockingjay whistle would have made a great symbol too. Anyway, I babble.

Ooh, maybe now I'll have more interest in powering through the unabridged book. I read the Abridged version years ago and loved it first, so all the Napoleonic history really threw me off when tackling the Unabridged before I got near the details you mention. They sound like good stuff. :)

Ooh, you almost make me wish Rue had somehow won! I loved the Mockingjay whistle. It's the kind of thing that really worked well on film.

I didn't like actress!Rue, though. But I do like the idea of the character winning, if that makes sense.

Prim would have never made it. But that red-headed girl (I read a review where it said she took all the risks where Katniss just watched and learned from that girl) almost made it it if not for the berries. She looked very young. And Peeta almost ate the berries!!! Goodness.

So. Katniss and Rue should have been last women standing is what I think. :-D

I always think of Ophelia when I think of rue. Must be me. :-)

It makes sense, I liked the actress fine, but I've wanted a version where Rue wins since reading the first book. The Mockingjay whistle worked great on screen, yes.

Yes! The red hair girl! She's another one I wouldn't have minded winning (they called her Foxface in the books, but I think the actress gave her the name Finch or something similar.) Mostly she was clever, didn't kill anyone, and just generally kept them all off balance. Should have had more of her.

I'm not familiar enough with Ophelia to know, honestly. :)
