I love this post! Because I know all these shows!

1. Julian Bashyr and Gaius have always been dead ringers. I noticed it with Gaius right away. Except Julian didn't cause the fall of the space station! Thank goodness.

Hey, I liked Q! I didn't like DS9 much. (Though I watched every ep as it aired originally.) Because I didn't like Avery Brooks. And I really didn't like the character of Kira. But Dax. Loved Jadzia very much.

2. I never read the HG books. The movie was okay. I wrote a mini-review in my journal of it a few weeks ago. While I agree with you about Katniss, I have to say that anyone with less than Jennifer's talent would have made an okay movie much more mediocre to me. She and Woody really held that film. Take Rue. Cute actress, probably looks like the character description? But she didn't do much for me as an actress. That said, surely, there are many diverse people out there who can act well. I'm certain of it. They are just unknowns and maybe the studio was unwilling to take a financial risk on an unknown. Again, I only found the movie okay. And Jennifer Lawrence's performance is largely what really made the movie worth watching for me.

I also like dystopian possible futures as you know, but I didn't get a lot of detail about that part from the film.

Rue and Thresh as victors would have been awesome! They were District 11, yes? Viva la revolucion!

Didn't keep reading because I haven't read the books, but might watch future movies.

Unabridged Les Miz is awesome! I love the details about Eponine's life before they move and the Thernardiers' circumstances change. Other details like how Marius didn't know his beloved's handwriting (LOL) and it's just richer. I always want more and Hugo gives it to us. Even a bit more on Fantine's romance. Good stuff!

1) Nope, Q is not for me. :) I wasn't a fan of Avery Brook's acting the first couple because it kind of freaked me out that he wouldn't emote with his eyes. But we're good by now, I liked him in this last one a lot. Jadzia Dax is probably my favorite single character right now, but I like where Kira's set up on the show? Lots of potential for things to happen. :)

2) Sorry, I did mix in a lot from both the books and movie here, it's a blended review. I think the casting did ask for a Caucasian actress specifically though, so it seems like they limited their pool from the beginning. But, yeah Jennifer Lawrence is extremely talented and I thought all of the actors did a good job fleshing out what they could. There wasn't so much outside of Katniss and Peeta to work with, character-wise. Fast movie.

The dystopia part never made as much sense to me, I just can't figure out how this world actually holds together.

Yep, Rue and Thresh were District 11. Rue has her mini-Spiderman act and Thresh in the books at least has smarts and other skills to back up them being a good team if the announcement about two Viktors came just a bit sooner. Katniss had all these heroic moments, but one of the things we were talking about afterward is if how others could have sparked revolt or if Katniss could have done the same without making it out of the arena. (I have a head canon that, because I can't believe 12 year olds ever show up in the Arena, that most Districts in the past rigged it so they wouldn't (Volunteers, extra allotments, etc). Of course the Capitol probably did something extra awful to stop the practice and that's why you have Rue and almost Primrose selected for this one.) Tiny Rue, with Katniss' pin and her Mockingjay whistle would have made a great symbol too. Anyway, I babble.

Ooh, maybe now I'll have more interest in powering through the unabridged book. I read the Abridged version years ago and loved it first, so all the Napoleonic history really threw me off when tackling the Unabridged before I got near the details you mention. They sound like good stuff. :)

Ooh, you almost make me wish Rue had somehow won! I loved the Mockingjay whistle. It's the kind of thing that really worked well on film.

I didn't like actress!Rue, though. But I do like the idea of the character winning, if that makes sense.

Prim would have never made it. But that red-headed girl (I read a review where it said she took all the risks where Katniss just watched and learned from that girl) almost made it it if not for the berries. She looked very young. And Peeta almost ate the berries!!! Goodness.

So. Katniss and Rue should have been last women standing is what I think. :-D

I always think of Ophelia when I think of rue. Must be me. :-)

It makes sense, I liked the actress fine, but I've wanted a version where Rue wins since reading the first book. The Mockingjay whistle worked great on screen, yes.

Yes! The red hair girl! She's another one I wouldn't have minded winning (they called her Foxface in the books, but I think the actress gave her the name Finch or something similar.) Mostly she was clever, didn't kill anyone, and just generally kept them all off balance. Should have had more of her.

I'm not familiar enough with Ophelia to know, honestly. :)
