Belated vid flailing

You guys!

I missed one!  Well, yeah, more than that, but later!

keewick 's When You Wish (last one on the list), which is um, BSG.  I think this is one to go without being clued in for, so I'll just put the reaction behind a cut and STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you just click and come back later?  With the warning  that those on my flist who liked the finale and are worn out from the criticism should probably avoid it like the plague. NOTHING TO SEE HERE! :D

Ok, so BSG and women, right?  All of these amazing women who drive the plot, who have visions and paint the future and lead the fleet to the promised land?  Yeah, the dead ones.

They're introduced with the power to change things and even just the small moments with Dee and Cally are lovely to see, though the very beginning of the intro does strongly foreshadow where the vid is going in the end.   This is in HUGE contrast to the men (and their significant others to an extent, though they have active roles) in this vid, who take largely passive roles in being shot, protected, attempting suicide, etc before the flash forward to Earth 2.0 where they get their rewards

The use of that shot of the five men in the grass, watching the natives and deciding the future makes for a pretty awesome transition to the second part.

Where I'm a little incoherent, because what comes at the midpoint is a fairly chilling (and in my mind mostly accurate) look of how all their visions and quests led to nothing but a broken and toxic world.  And then they...did next to nothing after that except be marginalized, killed off in horrifying ways, or to make a point (when they should have been Admiral!!).  The final montage of Nicky and his dads, Adama and his dead marriage on a hillside, and the last shot of Hera, who dies young and brings her genes to us is HORRIFYINGLY DEPRESSING.

So yeah, spectacularly creepy look that does touch on gender issues that trailed the show throughout, but really hit critical mass for 4.5. And personally, I think that some things, like Kara, could have and maybe did work, and are drowned by the context... but well, none of this goes away even so.

ETA: To actually add a link.

Edit the billionth:  This is why someone needs to take away my posting abilites, because I always want to pick at posts.  Bleargh. But looking at the vid page while linking told me that this was part of an IDIC, Infinite Diveristy in Infinite Combination, challenge.  Which Google informs me is core Vulcan philosophy celebrating the wide array of variables in the universe.  And that makes me look at things a little differently?   Like, I still see all of this, but there's some shots of Kara specifically that seem to be doing something else too.  And it's very tied up in who gets to Earth.  Also, Hera closing the vid, but it's just...not scanning right now. Maybe tomorrow.

I actually downloaded this earlier, but I totally didn't pay attention until my brain caught up in the second half and snapped to attention.  I'm intensely curious to hear what y'all think.
