Too much going on. Too much to do. The shit that's been going on in Burma is so fucked up. My friend was talking to me on the phone about how her mom witnessed govt troops taking over one of the main hospitals in Yangon. The troops started ordering doctors around, telling them how to "care" for the wounded monks and protesters.
It reminded me of parts of "We Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families" - that Philip Gourevitch book about the Rwandan genocide. And you know what's so fucked up? The GENOCIDE FUCKING HAPPENED. Everyone's angry and saddened that the United Nations and the rest of the world didn't do more while it happened ... but it still happened.
Is this what's going to happen in Burma? Will this just be another great tragedy that people will talk about for years to come? Saying "Oh, it's so sad that we didn't do more, we'll never let this happen again."
Well FUCK it's happening again.
Burma Assoc at Berkeley organizing a candlelight vigil for sometime next week. More details to come.
