Calling any Makefile experts

I'm crossing my fingers that someone on my f-list is a rare expert on Makefile syntax. I'm not, nor can I find any.

What I need to do is gzip all the .js files under one directory (not flat, but in subdirs). Any idea on how? Can make even do that?
