It was a hoot, baby!
SO out here in Federal Way, WA there's some power lines that go pretty f'in deep into the forest if you go for a few miles. I went out there tonight at around 1:00am because I was restless and wanted to enjoy the forest at nighttime. I started to hear this owl off in the distance hooting every 10 minutes or so.
As I got closer I started to replicate the noises "hoots" he was making, obviously not knowing what I was saying back. He started hooting every 30 or seconds or so after my replication. I finally got about 3 miles in and he was above me essentially. I kept hooting back and he went from one tree to another, closer and closer to me. I kept on hooting because it was so freakin' interesting/odd to me.
About 30 seconds later he landed less then 30 feet away from me, and let out an ungodly HISSSSSS, hahahahaha. Then he took off, it scared the shit out of me, but I was so stoked a normal stroll in the woods that could have been boring as fuck, turned out to be scary/entertaining as fuck. The only thing going through my mind is what I was saying back to him, hahahahaaha.
