elijah_brown and I spent the last few days on the Washington coast, staying at the neither good nor bad
Ocean Crest Resort. It happened we were in town (either Moclips or Pacific Beach, take your pick) for the Kelpers Festival, an event that celebrates shake rats and seaweed pickers which, you know, I think says everything that needs to be said; certainly it covers everything I know about it. But we were there for the parade and a fine, if bizarre, experience it was, too.
Most of the photos that follow are of the parade but, for the benefit of
alexfandra I'm including two bird photos. I'm identifying them as a Heerman's gull and a red-necked phalarope, both of which had every reason to be migrating through.
Signage
PIrates were big
on motorized bikes
or self-propelled.
Though it's a kelpers parade, the 35th King Clam was featured.
There was an homage (perhaps) to Michael Jackson
and also these men's false bosoms, tans, and bottoms.
Little boys like having their photos taken.
This one was very proud of his canoe.
And for good reason
This fine eagle was on the end opposite the bloody-toothed wolf.
Meanwhile, on the beach,
were dead fish,
unusual gulls,
and this single red-necked phalarope (?), hanging out with the sandpipers but unable to understand why they all ran from the water when it was so much more pleasant to float atop it.
