Busy past two days. I've been at Grulla; finally managed to get into my classroom and do some work. Things were a bit more organized yesterday--desks had been moved into my room, and Aida (the best custodian EVER) helped me hijack some unused furniture from an empty elementary classroom. She was real cute, pulling out a teacher's desk in excellent condition that she said she'd set aside for me. Aida rocks. :) Miss Morales was around too, and it's always good to see her.
Of course, what trip to Grulla would be complete without an impromptu surprise from the administration? As I was walking by the office, Ms. Gorena (our Dean of Instruction) waved me in and announced, "You're going to teach a section of drama this year." Um. Yeah. So...I'm teaching a section of drama. I'm not complaining, of course...I think it'll be an absolute blast, as long as I get kids who haven't been forced into taking the class. But it was quite a surprise to get 10 days before the start of school. Ah, the joys of GMS. :)
So, I've had a very productive and full couple of days. I finished getting most of my stuff moved over from my old classroom and unpacked and organized today, so when I go back on Monday I can focus on decorating. Being in a former elementary classroom, I have a TON of bulletin board space to make pretty. It will be a week of butcher paper, staples and glue guns for the Miss. :)
Coming back to school and being greeted by everyone with warm smiles and waves made me realize how much I've become a part of the school community. This time last year I was just totally overwhelmed, didn't know who to ask for anything or where to get the things I needed, and now I'm laughing and making small talk with everyone I run into. It's so nice to feel so at home. I love my school.
