Well, the Visit of the Mother is not going as terribly as I was worried it might. She did try to pick a fight with me about Bush winning about two minutes after she got off the plane, but I skwelched that as quickly as I could. She's only pestered me a very little bit about my looks and my weight. Seems she's trying hard to stay on good behavior. I figure the least I can do is return the favor, so I've avoided mentioning Karen and going Russia as best I can. She's aware of those things, but seems to prefer not to talk about them. Fine with me; means we avoid more fights.
It is good that Mary came, too. She helps keep Mom in check. And it's nice to see her again, too. Even though our lives are going in more different directions every time we see each other, we somehow manage to get around those differences and still be two close friends who grew up together and tell each other everything. It's a very unique and refreshing friendship.
So I spent yesterday showing them the house and then around McAllen, and we also went to see "The Incredibles." First time I'd been to a movie theater since Dad and I drove down to Texas in June! It was a very good movie; a bit darker than most other Pixar movies, but very good. I enjoyed it.
Last night was also quite good. Took Mom and Mary to El Patio for dinner and they got to meet Amanda and Amy. Mom was her usual intensely talkative self, but it was fine. I think Amy and Amanda just found it amusing. Then I took them back to their hotel and came home, and Amy and I stayed up watching "Dangerous Minds." Good movie...depressing on a number of levels, but good nonetheless. All in all, it was a quality evening.
