Okay, so I don't feel like quite as much of a failure as I did on Friday. Life is still kind of rough, though. Not teaching, just....existing. On Sunday I tried to go to church but it was so crowded I couldn't even get in the door. Seriously! And then I went to McAllen and got rear-ended--by an uninsured, unlicensed driver! Argh! I don't know how to deal with this stuff. I just want to go back to being six again. Can I? Please?
Seriously, though, I'm all right, and the Queen will be, once we get her bumper all reattached. And my ninth period class behaved PERFECTLY today. Things are looking up. :)
So, the main purpose of this update is to share a short list of amusing things about life and teaching in the Valley. Here ya go.
1. One of my most adorable but talkative boys was walking around the classroom at one point today, rubbing a composition book with a hot pink cover. I gave him a puzzled look and he said,.like it was the most exciting thing he'd ever seen, "Miss, it's so soft!" I totally cracked up, right there in front of my class. Call me weak, but it was way funny. :)
2. This Friday, the first school fundraiser. A basketball game. GMS faculty versus....United States Border Patrol. Yes, you read that correctly.
3. Fact: My school's student body is 100% Hispanic. Fact: Today Miguel Garcia raised his hand in the middle of class and asked me, "Miss, what's a Hispanic?"
4. After 9th period, I had my kids give themselves a round of applause and then dismissed them. As they were leaving, Rudy, on of the most problematic, burst through the door and yelled, "Behavin' kids, coming through!" Ah, small triumphs! :)
