This is my first afternoon tea in London, thanks to a friend visiting from Oz. It was a glorious Sunday and for October, the weather was amazing. The sky was cloudless and searingly blue. I shielded from the sunshine because I was actually getting burnt!
Afternoon tea was held in a spectacular part of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens. Complete with lush manicured lawns and precisely trimmed hedges. Even cute squirrels were dashing across the grounds.
Afternoon tea here is so popular, there still was a long queue at 3pm. Some people were told that they had to wait 50 minutes for a table. When we left a few hours later, the queue remained.
The Orangery's interiors matched it's majestic building. There were elegant Corinthian arches and columns inside. Decor fit for royalty. Bonsai cumquat trees placed at the centre of every table.
Signature afternoon tea consists of sandwiches, mini chocolate eclair, lemon tart and scones with cornish cream and strawberry jam. Tea was Rooibus scented with orange. Delightful!
Kensington Palace, once the official residence of the late Princess Di.
Yummy treats although the sandwiches were not freshly cut.
Funny how a tourist is needed to get me out to London places like this!
A frisky squirrel. So used to humans, they'll eat out of your hand if you're offering food. (Or atleast pretending to.)
