Oktoberfest 2008-doing the REAL DEAL

Oct 03, 2008 08:06

I remember the Lowenbrau in Sydney was the closest place to Oktoberfest. Where a pork knuckle dish is AUD$25-ish and is staffed by German working tourists.

I can safetly say that NOTHING compares going to Munich during Oktoberfest, where the Liderhosen run free and the pork knuckle and wurst is aplenty!

My flight to Munich was packed with Aussies. Their accents (OK, mine too) used to amuse me but now while I'm overseas, it annoys me beyond comprehension. There's so many of us here that it practically cheapens the experience!

Munich is a clean and happy city. Of course it was'nt always like this. Despite what it looks like today, it was war-devastated around 60 years ago. Not to mention, there were concentration camps. (I refused to go to the exhibitions.)

Maybe it was the free running beer and the patriotic indulgence of wearing full Bavarian costume, but Munich is now one of the cheeriest places in the world.

Asian tourists in the main sqaure of Marienplatz.

My pork knuckle lollipop for only 3 euros! Releasing the carnivore (and cavewoman) from within!

Relaxing in the English Park where classical music was played in the pergola. One of the most nicest parks I've visited in Europe.

And this is why. The water is so clear, you can even see the fish in the pond.

Juxaposing the new against the old.

Now the fun begins!

"Prost!"

I don't know how the beer maidens can carry six or more of these at a time!

The novelty is to wear a gingerbread heart around your neck and not eat it.

These huge pretzels are tasty and chewy inside. I wonder if the pretzel ladies are competing against each other?

The Oktoberfest grounds was a fantasyland of good fun food and beer. There were no donuts or fried mozellera sticks. Food available were grilled fish, chocolate coated fruit, wurst, pretzels and roast chicken!

A thrilling rollarcoaster ride. You fly around each of the loops. I was dizzy afterwards.

They are selling 1/2 metre wurst!

The REAL Lowenbrau Oktoberfest beer hall. It was so packed, we missed out on the chance to drink here.

Inside was full of life and rowdy beer drinkers.

What a wonderful place to be!
