In a lost afternoon, hidden away from the light of day, Don and Charlie are spread out across white sheets - sated.
Numbers swirl and still, whispering their secret language to Charlie as his breath and senses slowly return to him.
Damp curls surround a genius brain, lay on a sweaty stomach, form familiar nautilus curves.
The future is a Fibonacci series...
1 is Don
1 is Charlie
2 is two brothers.
3 is their family, father included.
5 is their fiancees turned into wives.
8 brings children into the mix.
Only this is a faulty Fibonacci sequence. It doesn't keep growing. It falters, reverses.
5 as the children grow up and move away.
3 as the wives divorce them.
2 as their father passes away.
They are left with only Don and Charlie.
As Charlie nestles closer, releasing a gentle sigh, Don wraps an arm around him, pressing a tender kiss to his mussed curls.
They are united, as one, never to be torn asunder again; they have promised each other this in unheard vows.
Even if the future unfolds in the failure he sees behind his eyes, at least Charlie knows he will never be less than two.
