Confession Part 1

This fic was written as a birthday gift for my friend raeyashi... In 2006, that is. I did get it done in time and emailed it to her on her birthday that year, but it wasn't ready for publication then so I held it. And held it. I tried to publish it in 2007, but it still wasn't ready. Eventually I managed a new and much longer ending for it and promptly put it aside to wait for this year's birthday. It's three years too late, and Ley's no longer in the Numb3rs fandom, but it had to come out and today being her birthday was ideal.

If you haven't already read the fairy tale this Winter Tale is based on, you really should. You can't properly appreciate the fic without it IMHO. Here are the two versions (they vary) that I based mine on, links given to me by Ley herself to work from: East of the Sun West of the Moon and East of the Moon and West of the Sun.
(Amusingly there is a YA novel called East (the nickname I've long used for this fic) based on this tale in which the bear's name is - wait for it - Charles! LOL
