This fic was written as a Yuletide Pinch Hit for recipient jennifer/pandorablu as part of the 2008 Yuletide challenge.

The request was for a gen case modeled after the show. Amusingly I'd basically just written almost that exact same prompt for my main Yuletide fic, so the challenge was in making them different! /likes a challenge/

I managed it by making this more of a mythology episode - Fiona is the client vs a third party. In the pilot, when Michael first wakes up in Miami, Fiona tells him "I needed to get out of New York anyway - old associates sniffing around." I figured then the perfect Fi case was to have said old associates be gunning for her.

FWIW, in my head I cast Kristoffer Polaha as Daniel. You probably don't recognize the name, but check out his IMDB page and you'll probably recognize a few things he's been in that you know. I think of him mostly as the fireman Will who kind of seduced Brennan in Bones during The Headless Witch in the Woods. Although I saw him first in his second role ever, on Angel, and then later on Eliza Dushku's Tru Calling. Supernatural fans might recognize him from Jensen's movie The Plight of Clownana. Now for any of you still reading, here's the payoff for this long tangent. First look what Yuletide fic I published yesterday: Cupid. Then look at his IMDB page. Look what role he's playing on TV *now*. Yes, I'm not shitting you: he's playing Cupid. And what's crazier (as if this wasn't coincidence enough) it ends up his character is named - wait for it - Danny. I swear I had no idea about this show beforehand when I 'cast' him as Daniel in my head. I didn't even know the actor's name. I even had to go look up the episode he was on for Bones. And there is your weird coincidence of the day. Hope you enjoyed it. ;-)

"May the devil choke you" apparently is an Irish Gaelic saying: "Go dtachta an diabhal thú!" I found another one amusing, but it was too long: Go n-ithe an cat thú, is go n-ithe an diabhal an cat! (May the cat eat you and may the devil eat the cat!) /grins/

I'm sure there are plenty of places called Black Dog Pub (and LOL I mistyped pub as pup when I first wrote this!), but I didn't have any particular one in mind. I just like the name. /is a dog person/

One final thing... I *love* pinch hitting for Yuletide. Few things are more exciting than watching the pinch hits come into email and frantically reading them and trying to reply fast enough to win one of them. (Yes, win - it's amazing how many people are vying to help out. /marvels happily/) I felt really fortunate to not only get one at all, but to get such a good one in a fandom I'd already enjoyed writing for Yuletide. Yes, I'm greedy and I would have liked another one, but I'm happy to have this and thrilled beyond belief to see how much it got recced on yuletide (THANK YOU!) before the reveal. /beams/ Honestly, my fic was recced on the very first recs post to go up on the comm after the archive opened so I've been kind of flying since then.
