Friday night at Gonzalez meant a testosterone-laden array of cops, agents and PIs.
And apparently this Friday night, AUSAs.
Don spotted Alvin and Howard at the bar and watched until Alvin vacated his seat, leaving Howard all alone.
That empty barstool proved too hard to resist.
"Howard."
"Don."
Howard raised his glass slightly in greeting.
"Bad case?"
"Judge threw out my motion."
"That has to suck."
"You have no idea." Howard swirled the Scotch in his glass. "Just ask."
"Ask what?"
"Whatever it is you wanted to know."
"Uh, okay. I was just wondering why you thought, you know," he said lamely. "I mean, I know I've got a rep, but I'm not into guys."
"Evidence points to the contrary, my friend," Howard huffed into his drink. "AUSAs talk. Some of us even talk to our peers in Albuquerque." Don blanched. "Andrew sends his greetings." Don went a whiter shade of pale.
"Oh." Don tossed back the last of his drink
"By the way Alvin told me he'd totally do you." The gurgling sound beside him was Don choking on his beer. "But that was before he went on his 'David is my hero' trip."
"Alvin Brickle wants me." Don coughed, still processing that piece of information.
"Wanted you, though he'd probably still go for it. Only I guess you don't do guys... Anymore," Howard added with a smirk.
"So is this where I'm supposed to bribe you in return for your silence?" Don asked, his eyebrow raised.
"No," Howard said, laying a bill on the counter as he stood. "That happens at my house. See you in about twenty minutes?" Don gaped, unable to get words to come out of his mouth. Howard just leaned over to whisper in his ear. "I love it when I leave you speechless."
