Took Chloe in to the vet today and said our goodbyes. The doctor was really surprised at how quickly the stuff took, said "she was really ready to go." Yesterday we bought a day's worth of her favorite food flavor, figuring it didn't mater if she got used to it (which used to happen when we'd give her the same thing too often). She had a nice long nap in the sun before we left, and lots of cuddles and scritches on the way and through to the end.
I first got her in July of 1992, so she'd been with me nearly 15 years. The humane society folks said she was 4.5 when I got her, so she lived to be a pretty old lady. Lately she'd been getting thinner and limping more, becoming more confused, being sick a lot. So it was really time. But she was a good cat and I'll miss her. Pip has mostly ignored her, so I don't think we'll have to explain it to him. And Wm is of course way too young. Maybe after we get everything organized and finish the remodel stuff we have in mind we will get another kitty. But not right now.
