racing the yarn

Doing the border on the shawl for kathrynt. It's handspun and not 100% consistent, so yardage and weight might not correspond all the way down the ball of yarn, but... I had 16 grams when I started the 9 row (including bind-off) border. I've done 6 rows, and I have 7 grams left. It *should* be enough to finish, albeit barely. But I find myself knitting ( Read more... )

I find myself knitting faster so that I'll get to the end before the yarn runs out.

*rotfl* I totally do that.

Me too. I had less than 5 feet of yarn on a sweater I knit for my husband, so it must work. :)

I love that visual. I know we have always had that moment when we race to beat the clock. I'm glad you won!

My spinning is done for the swap.. it is the making things for the inside that has stumped me.

I dithered for a while on the spinning and then realized I could order some fiber in a custom color mix. I've been doing some beading stuff when I get the chance (quick, baby's asleep, make a stitch marker! OK, now he's awake again, put the beads away. Repeat.), so I've made good progress on contents, but I need to put everything in one place and figure out if I've got enough.

*snrtle* Knitting fast enough so the yarn doesn't outrun you... *hee* I love it!

And congratulations on winning the race ;)

Kathryn has some fiber left and could have spun up some more if I'd needed it, so luckily it wasn't one of those "if I run out I need to rip back one repeat" situations. Which is good since the border was 411 stitch rows in seed stitch and I try to be sparing in knitting seed stitch so i don't get bonkers.
