Sixth consecutive day of no school. Looking at the calendar, this means that in the past thirty days, they have had a grand total of seven days of school, with one of those being a half day that was mostly holiday party-ish stuff. This is flat-out Just Not OK For Pip. I'm going to have to go to the school and say "dudes, you need to give him more ( Read more... )

The bus driver up here today was whining that they "should have called it." Yes, I understand that our road goes up a hill and has been a sheet of ice since it snowed last week, but come on... even P made it out of our driveway in the car without snowtires, and his skillz are not leet. I watched him: yes indeed, GUNNING IT UP THE HILL is the way to get that car out of the driveway!

Rgh. I don't get how paralyzed winter makes people here. I mean, I sort of do (it is damn hilly around here), but argh. Get a grip.

Yeah, somewhat, but I've been here so much longer than I was there. At least I remember my walking-on-ice skills from those days.

The bus usually drops C off across the street from our house. Because of the steep hill down the street, in weather like this they use the "emergency" route, which is to turn around at the cul-de-sac street 20 feet down, then came back this way... so she turned around first, then dropped off C. As the driver set her brake, the bus started SLIDING SIDEWAYS TOWARDS ME.

I just stood there and stared at it. It never even occurred to me to move back. duh. Then the driver told me "I'm waiting for you guys to get down the driveway before I release my brakes again." Whee! MELT FASTER.

I'd never seen a vehicle that huge move in that direction. It was mesmerizing.
