I've started pulling my best of 2008 list together (if it's done in Jan I'll be happy) and thanks to my handy dandy list I kept I am finding lots of good books I never blogged about. In order to keep the best of post to a reasonable length, I thought I'd start making up some of the holes

That's funny, I usually like books told in letters; in fact I can't think of any I didn't like, and plenty that I did. Maybe it all dates back to when I read 84 Charing Cross Road and decided that I would die of sorrow if I didn't one day get to England and visit dusty little used book stores. Which I hope to do, finally! If I can get past the historical fiction part of this book with the very long and intriguing title, I will give it a try.

84 Charing Cross Road is one of the ones I like. Perhaps I encountered a bad example at an impressionable age or something :)

I think you'd probably like the Guernsey book - I'll be getting it for a few different friends as it's just very likeable.

Just wait, you liked The secret life of bees, which is a historical fiction. So why will you need to overcome the historical element of the Guernsey book? Is it the 40s you particularly dislike?

You know, Secret Life of Bees didn't seem like historical fiction to me, checkers the aged.

I'm not opposed to reading about any particular time period and am not sure why me and historical fiction don't generally mix. It's just not usually my genre. I've heard good things about this book, though.

I tend to think any book written more than 15 years (OK I just made that period up, but some time) after the time period in which it's set is historical fiction, so don't worry, you're not old :)

I certainly can't disapprove of your dislike of historical fiction when I have just admitted I have an apparently unfounded dislike of stories told in letters :)
