Part 1     Part 2     Part 3     Part 4     Part 5

“The creation of an anchor requires the absolute faith on the part of the vessel, his entire being must be accepting, firm yet yielding….. all of you must accept our being into your minds, open yourself to us, and our powers are yours to command…”

As Yabu spoke, his words grew more and more ethereal, the five gods that stood in a circle, their chosen five in the center. Each held their hand forward, a glowing crest drawn on each of their palms. Gently now the five boys closed their eyes and felt upon them a gentle warmth as the hands touched their chests. As their mind grew calmer a heavy feeling came over them, their legs strained as the force of an invisible weight grew heavier and heavier. Their hearts quickened, the warm feeling now grew stronger and hotter. The single palm that pushed against their chests became scalding hot and while each boy bore the pain the light in their minds grew all-consuming and all in the blink of an eye it was calm again….

“It is done…..” Kei whispered, and the five boys opened their eyes. The gods themselves were glowing now, a power different than that they had ever shown. Ribbons of light surrounded them and streamed from the cores of their being It was as if they were being…. Filled.

“W-Whats happening?” Ryosuke panicked.

They watched as the ribbons disappeared and as the seconds passed, each god became more… solid. The light that surrounded them dimmed and shimmered as it dissipated.

“We have been born into this world… our bodies are of flesh now… and we have been given form in this realm..” Daiki explained.

“This is the seal that binds our union, it will disappear only when you reject us, or when…. You die.” Hikaru said, giving Keito a playful push.

“A-Ah!” Yuto jumped looking at his chest, an ornate circle with a single water drop in its center was glowing blue and it seemed almost…. Branded into his body.

The other boys looked at their own seal and they watched as it faded and dulled. On the outside it looked as if nothing had changed at all…

“Rest tonight… your bodies have undergone a huge transformation… and tomorrow… you may feel different…” Takaki advised, the other gods nodded their agreement.

“I think…. I-I just…” Keito stuttered
“A-A-A! No fainting….!” Hikaru jumped over quickly.

“I think what he was trying to say… is that we should continue this…. tomorrow.” Yabu said softly, and while that wasn't quite what Keito was thinking, he nodded anyway.

“We’ll be off then…” Yabu said first, putting his hand on Ryosuke’s shoulder.
“To home...” And the pair disintegrated into the small firefly balls and wisped across the sky.

“To home…” Ryutaro repeated, and Daiki did the same, disappearing in a mess of vines that rose and receded.

“To the dojo…” Chinen chirped and Takaki, while slightly annoyed at the boy’s perkiness put his hand on the boy’s shoulder with a burst of red flames they too were gone.

“Good bye Yuto..” Keito waved as Hikaru grabbed his wrist and a small twister engulfed them, leaving nothing behind.

“Don't you want to go home too Yuto?” Kei asked, placing his hand on the tall boy’s shoulder.
“There’s nothing for me at home….” Yuto answered
“Your brother is waiting..”
“My brother told me to go find my dreams, to live my life as the musician I want to be…. If I go home now….”
“I don't… understand.”
“If I go back… I’ll be failing him… and so…. all I can do is make him proud of me.” Yuto smiled.

“Though…. If you could… I’d like to go back to the seaside…”

Kei nodded and when he placed his hand on Yuto’s shoulder, the two boys vanished in a haze of mist.

A Season of Change: Keito

“Keito… wake up.”
“mmnh…”
“Keiiito~ Wake UP!” Hikaru jumped on the lump in the bed
“A-Ah-AHH! I’m awake!” A very groggy Keito sat up, his hair a mess and his shirt skewed to one side.

“W-What time is it…?” He asked, trying his best to open at least one eye.
“It’s almost nine in the morning!” Hikaru pipped
“T-Too early…” A swift plop onto the bed followed as Keito dragged the blankets around him again.

“WAAAAAAKE UPPPPPP!” Hikaru cheered again,
“mmnnnnnnhh….”

The god thought for a moment, twirling his fingers in the air, he brought to life a small twister of winds and he giggled as he lifted the blankets and tossed in between the sheets.

“A-AHHHHHHHH!!!” Keito jumped up, it felt as if the winds were tickling him all over his body.

“Goood morning…” Hikaru smiled again.

“Was that…. really… necessary….?”

Hikaru thought for a moment before nodding,

“Yes, yes it was.”

After Keito changed and had his breakfast he fell at the mercy of Hikaru’s whims, wanting to go to the park, the nearby trail to run….

“B-But I just woke up…..” Keito groaned.
“Well….. we don't have to run then…. But being at home is so boring…”
“Speaking of which why are you always in my house?!”
“Where else would I go?” Hikaru grinned

“N-Never mind…..”

The running trail that ran through the park seemed endless, they had been running for almost an hour now, and while Keito didn't think much of it, he did notice the time on his watch being a lot later than he imagined….

“D-Did we just run for three hours?”
“I think so? Mortal time is so fast…” Hikaru shrugged
“B-But I’m not tired…..”
“Oh…. Yeah…. That happens…”
“What do you mean “THAT happens”? What is THAT?”
“Well…you’re my anchor now, and part of me… is inside you… so…. so long as we are joined, you share part of my power and….. my energy.”
“So… I’m going to be as restless as you?”
“HEY! I’m not restless I can sit still whenever I want see?!” Hikaru turned stone faced for a moment, or rather exactly three seconds before hopping up again.
“That….. sure showed me….” Keito nodded
“Hush… but yes…. You don't get tired as easily…. “
“So I can do…. Almost anything without getting tired?”
“Is there…. Something you’ve always wanted to do?” Hikaru jumped at the chance for a new adventure.

“N-No…”
“You’re lying again… “
“I’m not!”
“You’re a reaaaally bad liar….” Hikaru teased, grinning ear to ear.
“W-Well….I always wanted to go… mountain climbing…..but.. “
“Afraid of heights?” Hikaru suggested, and Keito nodded his reply.

“WELL! Now you can definitely do it!” The god grabbed Keito by the wrist and in a small fluster of winds they were instantly standing at the base of a sheer cliff.

“A-AHHH!” Keito jumped back in surprise.
“What…?”
“I-I… never mind! I want to go home!”
“Keito… let’s go…. I promise, I wont let anything happen to you…” Hikaru smiled, offering his hand.

“I-I was j-just kidding..” Keito tried to play off his nervousness, his weight shifted from one foot to another.

It was then that Keito felt a sudden solid warmth surround him and he looked behind him to see Hikaru embracing him, a soft breeze flowed around them as he gave him a soft nudge and the feeling that… everything would be alright.

“Let’s go….” Hikaru said, his voice soothing like the wind and Keito felt…. Empowered. The first grab onto the rockface came naturally, the firm rough feeling of the stone against his fingers became nothing as his feet automatically moved one after the other, his hands stretching to reach one crevice after the other.

At some point during the climb, Keito realized he had been blindly climbing the mountain for quite some time now. Pausing now, he braced himself and gingerly looked down.

“A-AHh!” The world below was in a haze of colors, all of them too far to make out.
“Keito…. Don't look down… you’ll be okay…” Hikaru spoke softly, placing a hand on the boy’s arm.

“You’re almost there…. Just a little more… just a little more….” The god repeated.

Keito’s hands shook now, despite his desperate attempts to forget what he saw just below him, he couldn't quite regain the confidence he had just a few moments earlier. A few painstakingly slow climbs later Keito found himself flat against the solid ground at the very top of the small mountain.

“The summit is great isn’t it?” Hikaru smiled, stretching his arms wide and taking in the view.

“Y-Y-Yeah…” Keito crawled over to the edge, feeling slightly better his entire body was against the firm…. And flat ground.

“Keito… how does he feel? To have conquered your fear?” Hikaru asked, squatting down.
“Well…. I wouldn't say I conquered them…” The younger boy shivered, just looking down at the world below made his throat dry and his voice shaky.
“Why wouldn't you say that? You did it didn't you? You’re here….”
“I-I just…. I’m used to.. being afraid of things….. I know that I couldn't possibly do…. All the things that my friends do, I’m just not that… adventurous….”
“Why not?” Hikaru frowned

“I… guess it was when I was still little, I was really…. Puny.. and when I moved here from England, I didn't make a lot of friends as a foreigner who didn't really speak Japanese…”
“I see…..” Hikaru nodded along
“So… I did my best to stay out of trouble, and part of that was not drawing attention to myself, and still part of that…. was not taking risks….”

“Well… now… I’m here… and I promise…. Everything will be okay… and you can take your risks….” Hikaru smiled as he hopped towards the edge of the summit.

“As a matter of fact… why don't you take your first risk right now?”
“W-What?” Keito panicked
“I want you… to jump off this cliff”
“W-WHAT!?”
“Jump off the cliff” Hikaru repeated calmly.

“B-But…..”
“Jump off the cliff and I’ll catch you… cant you trust me yet?” Hikaru asked, his voice a little taunting.
“I-It’s so.. high…” The younger boy shuffled his way to the edge, gently peering over the edge. It was a sheer drop down to the bottom, with jagged rocks and painful looking trees littering the way.

“I promise…. It’ll be okay… if you’ll just trust me… and jump…” Hikaru whispered, wrapping his arms around the other boy for a moment, he allowed himself to feel calm, and he could imagine the feeling flowing into Keito’s body. He hoped that some part of himself would calm the boy, but not even he was sure if it would work.

“I….” Keito sounded like he was about to hyperventilate and just as Hikaru was about to call it quits, he gasped when the body in his arms suddenly broke his embrace and turned to face him. With a deep breath Keito smiled and uttered something before turning and ….. he was gone.

Catch me…

Hikaru smiled as he watched the boy free falling through the air. A sense of joy uplifted him and he let it flow through his being, the flesh body he was given disintegrated now, back into the winds that formed it. He dove down the mountain side, letting the trees rustle through him and all at once jumped up through the brush bringing a small twister of flowers with him. He could see Keito soaring through the air and he grinned to himself as he curled his winds around the boy’s waist and allowed the top half of his body to solidify again,

“I caught you…” He laughed as the winds pulled them up, letting them ride atop the currents that grazed over the land.

“I-I’m flying!” Keito laughed
“And for the first time you’re sure it’s not a dream!” Hikaru added sarcastically.

Together they flew over the city, seeing everything all at once. The sounds that reached them faded as the rose, the clouds appeared below them now and while the sheer cold rushed against them, Keito felt warm in Hikaru’s embrace, the two of them floating amidst the clear blue sky.

“Hikaru… it’s beautiful…”

The pair grinned as they pulled themselves closer, smiling as the winds that held them up slowly weakened and let them drift down to towards the ground. They landed softly in the vast valley that lay just behind the mountainside.

“So… Hikaru…what about you?”
“What about me?”
“You… have been slowly learning things about me, but… I don't know everything about you….”
“Oh? Whats the matter? Didn't pay attention to the old stories?”
“You mean the myths that I didn't think were real until a few hours ago?” Keito raised a brow.

“okay okay… fair enough…. Well… I was mortal once… like you… we all were. In those times way before what you know to be your world started, there was a beautiful universe, one where lush green meadows like this one weren’t all that uncommon…. I had a family, a small farm…” Hikaru reminisced.

“What were you like then?”
“I’d like to think that I’m the same as I was…. but maybe I’m more serious now…”
“This is you being more serious?” Again with the sarcastic tone
“Haha maybe… but I was just your average boy, I helped out when I could, I did my studies”
“And then?”
“And then… the gods descended. They had been watching over the world for so long they began to think that no single part of the universe was enough for them, or entertaining enough for them. So they had their followers crusade from home to home, murdering those who didn't follow their god and so on… I went out one day to work near the river and came back to find my family gone…. Not a single trace left.
“Oh Hikaru….”
“When I got over the shock, nothing seemed all that important anymore… and so I stopped caring…. I went through my days just sitting at home, my mind was utterly at peace just thinking of nothing, doing nothing. But I knew it wasn't a way to live… after a while….. I began to travel…. And that's when we met, my brothers and I. We each had our stories… and we each had our reasons… and when we discovered our purpose… we-“
“Gave up your noble sacrifices…”
“I gave up my serenity… at that point I’d sat at home for so long I didn't want to be calm anymore, so it was something I could bear, but after an eternity of it… sometimes I wonder what it would be like just to be able to sit still and take in everything…”

Keito smiled as he put his hand on Hikaru’s and laid back against the soft grasses.

“You’re taking everything in now, you’re sitting still now…. Aren’t you?”

Moments flew by, and they watched quietly as the day changed from soft blues to a bright auburn and a soothing black. The sound of a nearby town came to them in the winds and they smiled as they listened to a family talking loudly about the prospects of their children. Soon even the night became still as the day ended and Hikaru sat up.

“Keito?” He called softly as he felt the hand around his relax, the younger boy had fallen asleep among the dew laden grasses and Hikaru smiled as he squeezed the boy’s hand and with the passing of a breeze they were gone…….

Sorry this chapter is so short! But i wanted to wrap up the last bit of things and put in a small chapter since the new structure of the story allows me to write longer sections on each of the boys, instead of many short ones!

Hope you enjoy!
