Of Angels and Men.....

Nov 02, 2009 01:48

“He’s cute…..” Keito sighed as he sat on a cloud floating amongst the blue sky.  Lately, he had grown bored with Heaven and its mandates, and took to looking down upon the human world below. Of course the world was full of different types of people, some nice, some wicked. Still, it seemed no matter what horrific crimes Keito saw, he could always refocus his gaze upon…. Him.  Hikaru Yaotome.

As of late, he had taken a liking to the boy, giggling as he watched Hikaru trip and stumble on the sidewalk, only to stand up again, straighten his shirt and pretend nervously that nothing had happened.

“Goofball..” Keito smiled happily as he watched from the clouds above. His wings flapped absentmindedly, happily.

“Still watching are you…. Okamoto-san?” A voice called behind him.

“Ah..uh…” Keito stood up to see his former mentor, a stern young man known to him only as Kensuke.  He was dressed in the same way Keito was, in a white garb, lined with gold trimming and small sandals that seemed to sparkle as he walked.  Kensuke walked over to Keito’s side and peered down between the breaks in the clouds.

“You’re the only angel I know Keito-San, that spends so much time looking down at the world below…”

“Well… that's to say… uh…”

“It’s okay…. I can see right through you…” Kensuke replied.

“Hey! How come you didn't teach me how to do that!” Keito looked dismayed

“It’s not a power of ours…. Keito.. I meant I see that look in your eyes… you’ve found someone upon the earth that makes you feel as if…. You’re heart’s got wings of its own… haven’t you?”

“M..Maybe…” Keito turned away from his teacher and looked down at the earth, his eyes immediately fell to Hikaru again. It was night time now, and the boy was getting ready for bed. He said a silent prayer for a good tomorrow, and laid down in his bed.

“Then…. You should go to him… and see what you can do.” Kensuke said

“But… you know that angels and humans cannot interact with each other….it’s against the laws of heaven….” Keito sighed

“Maybe… but don't you feel strongly towards this person? Don’t you want to meet…. Him?”

“Yes…. But.. I ca-ahH!” Keito felt a strong push against his back and suddenly he was falling. He tried desperately to flap his wings, to fly and ascend up to the heavens, but as he fell, the wings vanished, he turned around in his freefall to see his mentor waving goodbye to him.

“Kensukeeeeeee” Keito’s voice echoed as he fell faster and faster. Suddenly he felt himself hit the ground, but it didn't hurt…. He stood up… and looked around…. It was the small field that Hikaru had always run at in the mornings…… !

Keito looked around and found himself naked against the bare grasses and quickly covered himself, blushing.

“You coulda let me keep my clothes!” He yelled up into the skies, as suddenly a small sparkle in the corner of his eyes signaled something. He walked over to the small sparkle in the ground, and watched as a small flower grew out of the ground, larger and larger it grew. Its bulb blossomed and within it, Keito saw a pair of pants and a shirt, both neatly folded and in the purest of whites. He picked it up from the flower’s center and put them on. He noticed one last thing in the flower’s center and picked it up. A small card with glittering silver letters met his eyes.

Remember Keito… he must never know of your celestial origin…..You can stay, until the hour of midnight…

~Kensuke

“Gee… thanks…” Keito scoffed and watched as the letters on the card disappeared and reappeared to form the words.

You’re welcome….. brat…

Keito smiled at the words and put the card in his pocket. It was almost daybreak, and that meant that Hikaru was about to arrive for his morning jog.

“Clothes…. Do your thing….” Keito sighed as he snapped his fingers and in an instant, beautiful sparkles of green, silver and white enveloped him and his clothes began to morph from their plain form into a snow white tracksuit, like the one that he had seen his crush wear everyday he ran.

He looked up at the sun and noticed that it was exactly six in the morning, and he looked to the horizon to see a figure appear on the hill, exactly on schedule. He took to running the same path that he had seen Hikaru run and blushed as the boy he had been admiring began his own run. Seeing that someone else had found his secret running spot, he felt curious and sped up until he was beside Keito.

“Hi! My name’s Hikaru…I’ve never seen you around here before….. what’s your name?”

“K-Keito….” He stuttered his words.

“Nice to meet you” Hikaru held out his hand as the two jogged.

“Nice to meet you..” Keito took his hand nervously and shook it. It was so… warm, nothing like the cool heavens he was used to. He jogged nervously alongside Hikaru, not daring to look at him. That is, until he turned his head slightly and noticed that the boy was staring at him….

Keito sure was different from the other boys that Hikaru knew…. There was just something about him… the way the sun struck his pure white skin, the way his eyes shone with the light of the stars… he seemed….. so pure and heavenly… until that moment, Hikaru had never known what the meaning of being “star-struck” was… but now… he knew. The boy that ran beside him was so…. beautiful, it didn't even seem as if he were sweating, and they had been running for well over an hour!

“Is… something wrong?” Keito asked worriedly, hoping that his wings hadn’t suddenly popped back, or his clothes hadn’t suddenly melted again.

“N-No! Nothing! I… ah.. gotta go… school…!” Hikaru shook his head nervously and smiled before turning and running off towards his home.

“Maybe I’ll see you there!’ He called as he waved goodbye from the top of the hill.

Keito waved and smiled

“Maybe… you will….” He smiled he looked over to the flower and smirked as a small white school bag awaited him. He picked it up and gave a small thanks to Kensuke before walking slowly towards the school.

“Ano… I think it was this way…” Keito scratched his head as he walked towards the direction he thought the school was in. As more and more uniformed students walked past him, began to be convinced that he was headed in the right direction.  When he reached the school, he realized that the two teachers that watched the gates, were obviously not going to let him into the school dressed as he was. Ducking into an secluded corner, he snapped his fingers again, and the beautiful ribbons of green, silver and white wrapped around him, morphing his clothes into a white version of the school uniform.

“Oh well… it’ll have to do…” He smiled as he walked out of the corner and towards the gate. The teachers smiled at him as he waved back he smiled as he walked into the school as the boys pointed out how strange his “formal” uniform was, and the girls pointed out how cool… or how handsome he was. He made his way to the principal and sat down at the office door.

“Ah! A new student..?” The man laughed heartily and welcomed Keito in.

“Well…. What classes would you like to take this semester young man?” the man asked.

“I.. uh… have a friend here, his name is Hikaru… Hikaru Yaotome…. If possible, I’d like to be in his classes…” Keito replied earnestly.

“Well…. Lets see what we can do about that…” The man smiled and began clicking away at his keyboard.

In almost no time at all, Keito found himself standing before Hikaru’s class, bowing and introducing himself. He quickly made up a story about his life, and sat down, thankfully in a seat next to Hikaru.

The day went on as usual, and Hikaru was even so intrigued by Keito, that he saved the boy a space at his lunch table.

“So… Keito….I uh…. Was going to go out to watch a game at the park…. My friend’s little brother is playing in it… and I was wondering….. if you’d like to come?” Hikaru asked nervously. He didn’t know why, but for some reason he felt so drawn to the boy dressed in white.

“Sure…” Keito nodded, his eyes wide with excitement. This was that the mortals on earth called a date…. Wasn't it?

The bell for their next class rang, and the two of them hurriedly stuffed their faces before running to the classroom again.

As school ended, Keito stood around the school courtyard and waited for Hikaru, nervously he paced back and forth. A sudden figure running toward him drew his attention and he turned to see the boy running towards him.

“Hey! Sorry I’m late, I got a small scolding from sensei…” Hikaru bowed shyly as Keito giggled.

“But I just got a call from my friend, he says that there’s a coming storm so the game’s been canceled..” Hikaru sighed but noticing the disappointed look on Keito’s face, he quickly added:

“B-But that doesn’t mean we cant do something else…. How about… I treat you to dinner? To make up for it?” Hikaru bent down and moved his head playfully from side to side, looking up at Keito.

“You don't have to… lets just… eat together okay…? Yaotome-kun?” Keito smiled

“Just call me Hikaru…” The boy smiled and together they walked out to the street and just a few blocks away into a small restaurant café. Keito looked on in awe at the many assortments of cakes that they had to offer.

Hikaru thought it was cute, the way the other boy poured himself over the cakes. He was so innocent, the way his eyes gleamed was almost like a little kid, eyeing a Christmas present.

“Jya… since you like them so much… how about one of each…?” Hikaru smiled as he pulled out his wallet

“No no its okay…. Just…… this one please…” Keito pointed to one marked “Angel Food Cake” It had luscious amounts of whipped cream on it, and a strawberry that shined in the light atop its sweet mound.  Keito reached into his pant pocket and snapped his fingers, instantly money appeared in his hands, and as he turned to pay  he realized that Hikaru, had beaten him to the register.

“Hikaru… you didn’t have to…” Keito whined shyly

“Un, it’s okay… I wanted to…” Hikaru smiled as he playfully pushed Keito in the direction of a small booth in the corner. They sat there for a bit before their drinks came, and Hikaru thought it best to break the ice.

“Keit-“ Hikaru started, but was interrupted.

“Hikaru… I’m really… so glad that I get to meet you…..” the boy said as he smiled at the slice of cake that was before him. It was a symbol of the first real thing he had received from his crush, and it was not to be taken lightly. He took a small delicate bite of the cake, and his eyes widened as its wonderous flavors swarmed over his taste buds.

“Well… I’m glad that I met you too Keito….” Hikaru smiled and took a sip of his hot chocolate.  He turned to look at his companion, and started to laugh as the innocent little Keito had small fleck of the frosting on his cheek.

“Ahah, now how did that get there….?” Hikaru laughed as he dispatched a single finger to wipe it off, brushing it against Keito’s smooth and silky skin. For a moment, the world stood on edge, as Hikaru’s hand froze in midair, and their eyes met. There was something in Keito’s eyes, something deep…. Something warming. Unconsciously, Hikaru leaned forward and their lips met. He could taste a little bit of the cake, the remnants left on his lips or maybe… it was Keito himself….

“I uh… I'm sorry!” Hikaru apologized profusely when their kiss ended

“It…It’s okay…” Keito blushed as he looked down at his hands in his lap.

“Maybe… let’s take it a little slow…” Hikaru suggested

“So I don't… scare you away….” He explained when Keito gave him a puzzled look.

“Oh….” Keito sounded disappointed.

The pair talked for hours about their lives, Keito trying to speak the truth as much as possible, but there were of course times, where he may have made something up to cover his true origins. He smiled as he listened to Hikaru. He must have been so much like the girls in those dramas that Hikaru watched. His chin rested contently upon his chin and his eyes gazing lovingly, at the boy as he made wild gestures to accompany his tales.  He loved the goofy faces that HIkaru made, the small jokes and puns. He had never quite laughed and enjoyed himself in heaven, than he had here with him.

They found that they had much in common, both enjoying everything from the gentle rains showers in the spring, to the hot soaks in an onsen in the winters.

“Ah! It’s time to go home… it’s already so late in the night!”  HIkaru smiled as he looked at his watch and pulled out a few bills as tip for the waitress that had come to refill their drinks time and time again. “Do you need me to walk you home? I mean if you just got here, you might get lost…. Where do you live?” Hikaru asked as a distant raincloud began to creep faster towards them. He pulled an umbrella out of his school bag and opened it just in time to block both he and Keito from the torrential rains.

“I uh…” Keito stammered, trying to think of a place, but before his mind could invent one, he noticed something out of the corner of his eyes. A gleam came to him and as he turned he saw a massive ball of….. something coming towards him and Hikaru. As it drew closer and closer he realized what it was and quickly shielded himself with his hands. A blast of pure energy, something he had seen before hit him and his body shook with pain as he was knocked back, but when he turned around, he realized the force of the ball had hit Hikaru, knocking the boy unconscious. The sight of his crush on the floor enraged Keito as his wings reappeared and he summoned a barrier of protection. He picked Hikaru up and flew into the air, soaring upon the currents of the storm. He landed in a soft meadow after flying at an immense speed for quite the while. He laid Hikaru down and just as he did, he noticed his wings disappeared again.

“What… was that?” He sighed. Even here in the countryside, the rains continued to pour, and Keito could do little to wake Hikaru. He smiled and with a wave of his hands, the waters that fell down upon them parted and left Hikaru dry. Keito smiled as he walked over to a nearby tree and pulled four small sprouting branches from its body, setting them into the ground, he raised his hands, and the ribbons once again appeared, shooting from his body and curling around the saplings. He watched as the growing plants grew and wrapped themselves around he and Hikaru, forming a more permanent barrier against the rains. And with a snap of his fingers, the ribbons disappeared. He turned his attention to the still unconscious boy on the ground and smiled as he noted the soft rise and falls of his chest. He was so peaceful, and for a mortal on earth, he had the face of an angel.

Keito started a small fire in the corner of his tree hut and when he was satisfied of its ability to provide warmth, he walked over to Hikaru and gently shook him.

“Hikaru?” He asked worriedly

“mmnnh…” Hikaru tossed and turned

“Hikaru?”

“Mmmnnn one more minute mom…..” The boy groaned, causing Keito to giggle.

“Wake up Hikaru…” Keito sang , this time the boy sat up and looked about.

“K-Keito?” the boy rubbed his eyes and then immediately grabbed his head.

“Ugh… I have the worst headache….” He winced as he tried to straighten himself

“Where are we….?” Hikaru looked around at the strange way the trees were wrapped around each other, forming their little hut.

“Hikaru….I have something to tell you….” Keito sighed as he looked up, between the leaves he could just barely discern the moon against the dark night sky. It was almost midnight…

“What is it? What’s wrong?” Hikaru worried, as he noticed the grave tone in Keito’s voice.

“I’m just…. so glad to have met you…. Even if it was just for such a short while…. To get to know you…. Even to have shaken your hand…..” Keito’s eyes began to water as he realized how cruel his situation was. He had just met Hikaru, and he was everything he had imagined and more. No being, in heaven or on earth, had ever made him feel as content as Hikaru had.

“I like you…. But you can never be with me….” Keito whispered breathlessly.

“Why not? Keito…. Whats wrong?”

“Im sorry Hikaru.. but I can’t tell you….” Keito felt himself tearing up. The time to leave was drawing nearer.

“Well….. I like you too…. I think…. You’re just so cute the way you are….. you listen to my crazy stories when others would have laughed and made fun of me…you’re like…. An angel….” Hikaru smiled as he put his arm around Keito and pulled the other boy in. He smiled happily as Keito’s head rested against his shoulder, and the two looked out of the small entrance their hut had into the night sky. It was clear now, the waters had stopped long ago. The silence that echoed through their hut was one that was also filled with a deep love for one another.

“I think… I’m ready for that kiss now….” Keito smiled. When those words escaped his mouth, his mind rang out a single thought:

“I don't want to go back……”

And just as he leaned in to kiss Hikaru, another glimmer caught his eyes and he panicked. Another, even bigger ball of the same white light was rampaging toward them. Quickly he shoved Hikaru deep into the hut and ran to the entrance. He braced himself as his own wings appeared and shielded his body, but the blast was too much for him to handle, and his world vanished into a bright white light……..

Keito awoke, and his surroundings looked familiar, but blurry. He tried to move, but found himself bound to something… he turned and as his eyesight cleared, he realized that he was back in heaven! Try as hard as he might, the crimson red ribbons that bound him to a formless wall would not break.

“Keito Okamoto… you are accused of leaving the kingdom of heaven, and mingling, without permisson, with the affairs of the mortal world…” A deep and authoritative voice rang out.

“You have been meddling with the affairs of this boy…” The voice continued as a small collection of clouds parted to reveal an unconscious Hikaru, lying on the ground.

“W-Wait!”

“Silence! Your punishment has been decided… and you will be stripped of your powers for the next thousand years…. You will be held here, in heaven whether you like it or not….” The voice vanished almost as suddenly as it had come, and within an instant, another figure appeared. It was another angel, this one dark and his gaze foreboding. Keito’s eyes widened with terror as he recognized him as the Angel of Justice, the one and only punisher and executioner of heaven. He watched in terror as the man held out a hand and in that instant an incredible pain swam through Keito’s body. He screamed as he felt a part of himself being ripped away, the ribbons of his power streamed from him and coalesced into a solid green and silver crystal ball in the hands of the angel.

“Here you will remain for the next thousand years….” The angel retorted as the crimson ribbons dissipated and Keito collapsed onto the floor, his body weak and pain stricken. He lifted his head to see Hikaru, who had awoken from the sounds of his cries. He had seen everything…Keito… was really an angel…… wings and all! That.. darker one… had just done something, and from the way Keito yelled, it couldn’t have been good…

“Wait…” Keito whispered breathlessly as he noticed there was a look of sheer terror on Hikaru’s face…it only grew more and more horrified as the angel of justice drew near him.

“WWait…” Keito whispered tiredly. But it was no use, the angel put a hand on Hikaru and with a wave of his wings, they vanished.

Keito reached out for them but his body, tired from its punishment failed him and he collapsed into the darkness.

(>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<)

“Keito?” A familiar voice called to him in the darkness of his mind.

Slowly, Keito’s eyes fluttered open to see Kensuke standing next to him.

“Unh….” Keito moaned as he found his body still weak and his heart defeated.

“Oy… they were rough on you….” Kensuke sighed.

“I’m… nothing now…. A fallen angel… I don't have my powers…. I don't have…. Hikaru…” he tried to wave his hands to part the clouds, but without his powers, they had no reason to listen.

“Well… there is one thing….. if you promise NEVER to see that boy again, the council will restore your powers… but you should know, that if you ever break your promise, that boy, Hikaru is it? Will never make his way here…. He will be turned into a pillar of pure marble, destined forever to watch the sun rise and set, as life passes around him, while he slowly erodes away into nothing.” Kensuke sighed and turned to look at Keito.

“I could never do that to him….. never…. But I cant forget him either….” Keito sat down solemly

“Kensuke…. Could you please…. Just show him to me…..?” Keito begged and his mentor could rarely refuse such a tone. With a sigh, the older angel waved his hands, and the clouds parted to show Hikaru, laying in his bed, sleeping.

“At least he’s safe….” Keito sighed as he turned away.

“There is….. another option….” Kensuke continued.

“W-what?”

“If you…. Can make that boy, say that he loves you, you will be stripped of all of your heavenly powers, and left to live as you choose on earth, as a mortal. However…… if you go down there and fail, you will fade into nothingness, your essence torn apart and dispersed.”

“But what about him?” Keito asked.

“Nothing… the only threat to this challenge…. Is to you.” Kensuke sighed, knowing the answer before Keito spoke it.

“I’ll tell the council of your decision…” Kensuke smiled gently as he watched Keito stand up and spread his arms and wings and fell forward, down into the earth.

(>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<) (>'_')><('_'<)

Keito found himself atop Hikaru’s house, luckily for him he didn’t need his powers to work his wings and he flew into the boy’s room. He smiled as he did his best to hide his wings with the blanket that the sleeping boy had kicked aside. Hikaru was so peaceful in his dreams, the goofy smile showed even then….

When he had wrapped himself he leaned over and pressed his forehead against Hikaru’s, laying the gentle kiss that he was robbed of.

“mnnh…” Hikaru awoke and he gasped

“K-Keito! You’re alive! I had this dream… that you were an angel… and that this really mean looking guy did something to you and.. and..”

“Shhh…. Hikaru… it’s okay…”

“Keito… I was so worried….”

“Hikaru….how… do you feel about me?” Keito asked.

“What do you mean?”

“How do you feel… about me….?” Keito repeated again, he wanted to know the answer, and if Hikaru had didn’t return his feelings, he would have been perfectly happy to fade into nothingness, than live a life of infatuation.

“I.. feel…. That you’re nice….. and kind…. And so gentle…. I love your smile, I love the way you think everything is cute.. and the way you face everything as if it were something new. I love the way that you talk.. the way that you listen….. I even love the small sparkle that comes into your eyes when you laugh. But most of all….. I….”

Keito leaned in as his heart felt moved by the boy’s words.

“Most of all…. I love….. you….” Hikaru finished, leaning in suddenly to kiss the boy. As he did, a sudden strong light struck Keito and he watched in awe as the boy was floating in the air. Marvelous ribbons of green, white and silver wrapped down Keito’s body pushing away the blanket, revealing the pure white wings hidden beneath.

“You’re an angel…” Hikaru said in awe

The ribbons intertwined around Keito and he could feel something changing within him. The heavenly glow that had surrounded his body faded as his skin became a little bit darker. He was becoming mortal….

He closed his eyes and whispered a silent thanks to Kensuke as the ribbons wrapped around him and as a final thanks to their master, brought out clothes of wonderfully rich green and silver. And as they uncoiled themselves around Keito and ascended up into the heavens, Keito’s wings began to vanish, turning into nothing more than just a few crystal white feathers that vanished into the air.

Keito felt the solid ground beneath his feet again and he collapsed onto the ground, his body was tired, but a good kind of tired….

“Keito!” Hikaru rushed to his side and knelt down

“Hikaru…. I’m so happy…. “ Keito whispered

“Are you okay?”

“I’m great…. Now that I can be with you… forever….” Keito smiled as his body gave in to exhaustion and his eyes closed.

“Keito….” Hikaru smiled as he helped the tired boy to his bed. He wrapped the two of them in his blanket and put his arm around Keito and grinned happily at his friend….. or was it boyfriend now?

“Im glad that I can be with you too…. Forever….” He whispered as he closed his eyes, and with Keito’s warmth beside him. He fell asleep.

And so they were together, forever….

Throughout life and even when they ascended to become angels in heaven, they were together….true love had brought them together……..

And no one in heaven or on earth, could break them apart…..

Comments are appreciated! I know the whole… supernatural thing may be a little far fetched, but who hasn't dreamed of falling in love with an angel? ^_^
