INFJ
harrassing younger siblings

INFJ is one of the 16 personality types from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator system.  The acronym stands for Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging.  This is most likely my type.  I like personality tests and the such because I'm curious about what they say about me and other people.  It relates to my interest in themes of potential and possibility in life in general, somehow.  I guess I also hope it can help me understand myself and other people better.  I'd often felt socially awkward when I was growing up and this is probably part of my way of training myself to get over that social discomfort.  And it might help me understand some of the relationship dynamics within my family.  However, of course, I try to take personality typing with a grain of salt because very few things in the universe have 100% certainty and accuracy.  Ack! I'm doing that overanalyzing thing that INFJs always fall into! :-P

Harassing younger siblings is an activity I seem to do frequently.  It's practically a responsibility.  I'm the oldest of three daughters in my family.  We are a family of Chinese descent.  I'm pretty sure these are related, no pun intended.  I've posted a few entries full of annoyed, somewhat guilt-ridden, complaints about my siblings and our mother's inability to allow them to be more responsible for themselves.  If I tried to get them to do things on their own (since they are young adults now), I was chided by our mother and told to "check up on them" and to enforce whatever she told them to do.  Anyway, the siblings, not surprisingly, were annoyed with these posts, claiming that I was slandering them and unfairly giving a bad impression of them.  I'm pretty sure I pointed out that they could slander me on their LJs and blow off some steam, but that didn't appease them.  So, I posted an apology and added "harassing younger siblings" to my interests as a sort of joking reference to my role as nanny and maternal enforcer.  Um, yeah, I suppose I am still a little bitter.

Ah, wonderful PBS (Public Broadcasting Service).  American public television has provided me with much education and entertainment over the years: Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, 3-2-1 Contact, and Reading Rainbow when I was small, and Nova, Nature, Masterpiece Theatre, Mystery!, Doctor Who, Monty Python, Britcoms, and Great Performances when I got older.  Not to mention lots of documentaries and news and travel programs.  It also seems to offer the best of BBC as well as some good CBC productions.  I get sucked into watching PBS every Sunday afternoon because the local station re-airs the best stuff.  When I get a regular, full-time job, I fully intend to support my local PBS station.

The icon I've tagged as "scenery" was made by
murron  when she made a batch of icons from photos she took of her trip to Scotland.  I happened to visit her LJ when I was surfing a community f-list.  At the time, I had a couple of empty icon spaces left and wanted to fill them with more generic, i.e., non-fandom, icons.  I picked this one because of the lovely photo of the misty loch, the tartan image indicating it was in Scotland, and the leaf.  It looked a lot like a maple leaf, and I love Canada.  The icon references two of my favorite places and it has an image of a pretty body of water in it.  What's not to like? ;-)

"Comfort food" is another of
murron's.  (And my other non-fandom icon.)  I think hot tea and pastries/cake are perfect for making someone feel better when they've had a bad day.  Food is also used in celebration, as a reward, and as an excuse to get together with other people.  It works for a lot of contexts.  Plus the image is just plain nice, so evocative of a pleasant garden tea time.

The Weir icon was custom-made for me by
jackuon  (aka Youngest Sibling), since I don't really know how to make icons.  I love the character of Dr. Elizabeth Weir.  I paired her with the word "will" because I think it takes a great deal of personal strength to be in her position.  It's hard to be a non-military leader in a setting with a strong military element, to be a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, and to not become overly-stubborn just to assert her authority when she's been criticized.  I think people mistake her listening to various opinions and options for weakness (or even incompentence) when all she's trying to do is gather information to make the best decision.  Good leaders know how to delegate and to keep the right people around to use their expertise; one person can't know everything.  But when Weir does make an executive decision on her own, she is firm and stands up for it.  OK, OK, I'll stop my analytical gushing now.
