I've been asked to apply for the job below. The manager is a friend of mine, he wouldn't be my direct manager but he would be my managers manager.

I need to decide if I'd accept it if I was offered the job before I apply for it.

This is mostly so I can keep track of my thinking on the matter but please feel free to chip in with comments if you have them.

Pros/cons
I know the business but the technical side is totally new - it's the opposite of the current job where the skills are known and the business knowledge is lacking - pro

It's not a long term pm role since in 9 months it will transition to an it support manager type roll. - not sure if this is good or bad

There are opportunities for promotion within the team in 2-3 years - pro

It's a new team without a clear path to get from a to b

Role Summary/Purpose
Member of the BI Team under Information Technology, focused on technical delivery of the Data Warehouse (DWH) enhancement projects and continuing stakeholder support & expertise in Business Intelligence.
Essential Responsibilities
• Responsible for delivering improvements to platform (GECARS eReports, Factorlink) reporting, migrating from legacy solution
• Analyse current platform reporting output together with the function reporting team
• Identify reporting to be delivered via in-platform solutions, working with the platform development and Enabling Technologies team to deliver solution
• Work with the BI Solutions architect to design real/near real time reporting capability within BI platforms
• Project Manage the implementation of new reporting solution
• Manage the interface between the BI and application teams where in-platform reporting is delivered through a cross-application solution
• Deliver reporting templates for us in cross-application reporting
• Manage the change process in application releases, ensuring new and changed data is delivered to DWH
• Keep up to date on relevant Business Intelligence developments, including mobile BI, Cloud solutions and analytics
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements

• Background in a financial or Business intelligence function
• Proven project management, analytical and process oriented skills with a clear sense of urgency and initiative
• Knowledge of Data Warehousing technologies and principles and experience using Business Objects, OBIEE, SAS or other BI Tools and Microsoft Office products
• Intense attention to details, while maintaining an accurate, results-oriented mentality
• An ability to work in a high pressure and fast paced environment
• Excellent oral & written communication skills at all levels
• Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with colleagues and build a healthy team atmosphere
• Proven ability to leverage support within a Matrix environment

Desired Characteristics
• Degree in Business Studies, Information Technology, Management Systems or similar analytical field by experience
• Operational knowledge of Factorlink (internal GE Capital Factoring system) or other Factoring/Risk platforms
• Experience within a Financial Services company, ideally within an AR Management or shared services environment
• Experience in both a business intelligence/reporting and financial function
• Previous experience of working with people from different countries, cultures and time zones
