TW S2E1 Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Ok, it was good, very good...
but it would have been better without the cliché scene between Jack and Gwen.

Why do writers always insist that the male and female leads are destined to fall madly in love? Or for at least one of them to pine for the love of the other? Or something else equally pathetic?     Bleck.
Get. On. With. It. Already!

If they do go the cliché route…

…I predict that the series will eventually end with Rhys dead (as he’s dying he’ll of course tell Gwen to go to her true love he knew about it for a long time but she’s just sooooo precious that he couldn’t live without her he wants her to be happy he knows Jack will take good care of her blah blah blah…). Gwen and Jack will declare their undying love for each other (well, Jack’s undying love and Gwen’s gonna-croak-someday love) and wandering off into the stars to live happily ever after, until Gwen dies of old age…

*insert gagging sounds here*

Here’s hoping they dump that storyline very soon - there’s just no sexual chemistry between Eve Myles and John Barrowman. They could try something new and unique… Have the 2 leads not fall in love and not have sex but have stable, happy relationships with other people. I’m not really sure that’s been done before has it?

The fall-out from the Jack and Gwen scene in cliché land -

Gwen - ‘Ya Jack, you wouldn’t have me so I settled for Rhys…’
Jack asking Ianto out - ‘Ya, Gwen’s with Rhys now, so I’ll settle for Ianto…’

I think I’ll just ignore that interpretation...   :(

I think I like the view that although Jack does still have feelings for Gwen and she for him, they've both realized that they have different lives to live and other people they care very much about.

The obligatory Capt’n Jack death scene was, well - OUCH. (Bet they cut most of that out of the kinder, friendlier re-run. *snerk*)

I liked the way the team worked together. I liked that when in the field, they seemed to take turns leading, with Owen calling the shots while the team deals with the blowfish, then, once back at the Hub, Gwen taking overall charge while Jack’s away. The power struggle between Jack and Gwen worked well with the team willing to leave it up to Jack and Gwen to sort it out on their own.

Looking forward to more next week!!!
