Day 61---late night/early morning
Today was one of the best days i've had since i've been down here. I spent the morning doing nothing. I went out by the pool again, this time with roomie Lauren. I came in, had some lunch...and still did nothing. I went into work at 5:30 at Crossroads, the first thing you see when you enter the park. Daniel came up to me pretty much right away and told me that we were closing at ten, because i would be the only one there and they would need me at Oscar's. I said OK. So ten rolls around and Ana, the lady that knows what she's doing, leaves me and Stephanie out there. Stephanie starts closing the windows and pulling the plastic/metal thing around it. I only have one way to get out and that's where the guests start coming. Adrian comes up at 10:05, expecting everything to be closed, i would imagine. a guest comes up the same time that Adrian does, wanting me to give him his 2$ deposit back for his locker. So now, what do I do? I see more guests lining up behind him and i know that if I help him, i will be helping all the rest and we'll never get out of here. If i don't help him, we'll have an unhappy guest. I turn to him and i say, "We're closing?" i really did have a question mark in my voice. I turn to Adrian and he nods, telling me to go ahead and take the man's key. i bring him back his two dollars and we send the guest happily on his way.
"Emily's never closed Crossroads before!" Stephanie blurts out. I send her a look. She said it in such an accusatory way that i wanted to laugh.
Adrian said, "That's OK. I'll help her close it." I think that was meant to send Stephanie back to Oscar's which is where she was really supposed to be, but she didn't take the hint. So Adrian and I get the remaining drawer out of the register with great difficulty. I guess he was trying to help me, but it wasn;t working too well. We were trying to get the drawer into a plastic shopping bag and i don't know how, but it just wasn't working.
A lady appears at the exit. She hands a Buzz Lightyear toy to Stephanie who looks at Adrian. We just took the drawer out. I look at him to see what he says. He turns to me. "Go ahead and ring it up. Then just take the change from the drawer." So i did as I was told, and another guest goes home happy.
We were finally getting ready to leave when two guys walk up. "Can you tell us what Downtown Disney is?"
Adrian launches into a 5 minute explanation of Downtown Disney, while I stand there, with the not-so-light cash drawer in my arms. Stephanie had apparently run off finally and that did mean however, that i was stuck there until Adrian could walk me to the office where i could sort the drawer. Adrian continues to talk about Downtown Disney, including which brand names are sold where. I tell you, that's what you get when you work at Express for the top salesperson in the nation, i guess. A brand-conscious, straight manager. I did want to laugh, though. It was kind of funny to see Adrian going on about Roxy and Quicksilver. Anyway, we send those two guys on their merry way and Stephanie reappears.
"You can walk Emily to the office, and i'll finish up here," Adrian said. Stephanie doesn't quite understand and justs stand there. So i said, "Come on!" but she still doesn't follow.
"I've got it covered," Adrian said. "Just walk her to the office, please."
So she escorted me to the office behind Classic Cars. Daniel took the drawer from me and I asked him if he wanted me to sort it. He thought this was a great idea. Apparently he didn't know Adrian had sent me down there to do that. I sorted the drawer. I then went on break.
I get back and Daniel sends me outside to catch the strollers as they come in. When the rush was over, i was helping put stuff away when Kathryn motions for me to go to the office.
"I need you to varify a drawer for me," Daniel said. "You're the only one around who knows how. That and I'm feeling to lazy to go get Adrian to sign when you can do it instead." So i recount the money and sign off, as I do almost every night.
"Can you pull an EJ on that one, too?" Daniel asks. I said i could. Daniel replied, "It's so great to have someone who knows what they're doing back here." He then sends me and Kathryn to get the final drawer. We get over there, and the door is locked. We have to walk back to Oscar's to get the key from daniel. He gives us the key and we walk back over to Package Pick Up. Marriane greets us at the once locked door with the final drawer. We deliver it back to Daniel and then it's time for us to head out. I ask if he wants me to do anything else and he said no. Kathryn asked how long he was going to be there and he said, "Adrian's almost done over there, so i guess we'll be here for another hour. I'm not complaining, because we're scheduled to be here until 3." Suddenly, Kathryn and I feel a lot better about clocking out at 1. anyway, as you can tell, i'm pretty beat. It's sleepy time. later.
