Brasil Part III - The Final Frontier, hahha

I make myself laugh, ok so we left off at Pom bos. The next day we went to the Mercado são José. This is the market were most of the common type people go. They sell tourist type stuff and food, like, meat (just hanging around,it's kinda gross), fish and vegetables. I've seen my fair share of skinned goats, hearts, and other raw meat to hold me over till next year for sure. Rich says, 50% of the people in Recife earn their money through those types of stands, magazine stands or food stands. You see them everywhere on the side of the street, in front of buildings, in parks, EVERYWHERE. They also had a ton of stuff to be used for occult practices, such as goat legs, human hair, horns, spices, incense, and beads. They also sell the cauldrons to offer sacrifices or perform rituals in. We rode in a taxi to get there and back. Only buses and taxis go near this market place, plus there's no where to park. Most people don't have cars anyway, usually they use public transportation or walk.

That afternoon we went to a larger mall which turned out to be a frustrating experience. The way they wear the clothes here are skin tight and very short. So it is next to impossible to find anything Brasilian to take back home. But, I did end up in a dressing room and couldn't get out for about a hour because of the people throwing new things over the door. They won't let you get away easy.

That evening we went out to dinner at a nice restaurant for Cheryl's birthday called Tio Pepe's. We had their version of barbeque chicken which was pretty similar and a steak filet. It was very good. I think i've gained like 20 lbs. on this trip.

Sunday was cool, the church's main service is on Sunday night so Sunday morning we drove around downtown and saw the port and alot of places that are impossible to get to during the week because of traffic. That afternoon we had churrasco (brazilian barbeque). Danílson, their little "adopted" boy, came over to the house and ate soooooooooo much and played and just had a good time. We had ice cream at the neighbor's home for Cheryl's b/d, they are also missionaries.

That evening we went to their church service. They dress up more in the evenings and everything. They had a blended service as far as worship goes. They had a band that played "Reina em Mim" that would be Reign in me for all you band types. They also played some other really cool songs that i think you will like, with great beats. Then they had a few traditional hymns, you all know how i like those, haha. Then we sat for about an hour listening to Portuguese we didn't even understand. It was cool though to hear. Afterward, they made the new people stand up and so Kev and I had to stand and they introduced us. We were very much welcomed by everybody there. They are such a friendly group of people. Then following the service we met with the youth pastor and the students to talk about our upcoming trip and ideas. They had alot of questions about you guys and what we do in Fusion. They are looking forward to us coming back. They even made us a card in English and signed all their names. I will show it to you when we get back. It was sad to leave them but cool cause we will be back soon.

Today we went to Casa da Cultura, which is a little more touristy and a little nicer. It is located in one of the old prisons. The shops are in the cells. There we found lots of souvenirs and one shop in particular was very cool. They had carved wooden magnets and houses carved by kids that used to live on the streets. They sell their stuff to help make money for them. The bus ride home was scaaaaaaary. The guy drove like a maniac and it was impossible to stay in your seat. We almost hit a taxi, a person, and another bus. It was like riding on a roller coaster. But we made it home and went out for pizza. They don't have tomato sauce on their pizza typically. So, they eat it with ketchup, mustard and mayo. It actually was very good. We plan on bringing you guys back there next year.

Ok guys, this is my last entry before we come home. Please pray for us as we travel back. More importantly pray for the upcoming trip in the spring and whether or not you should apply to come on it. This is and will be an amazing opportunity to see God at work in the lives of others in another culture and in another country. Also, to help fellow churches further their ministries in their areas. Pray about whether he wants you to come and jump in. It will be a life changing experience. I love you guys and will see you very soon (not soon enough). :) Be good and stay outta trouble.
