Time Again

I've been using the same FTP client since I began to internet. The thing is from 1995, quite literally. It's time to update. Are there any great, free, FTP programs you would recommend? The things I don't like about what I'm using now would include the dated interface and problems with it timing out while I'm trying to upload or download files.
I downloaded SmartFTP because it was popular, but when I installed it, it gave me this "SORRY, we have to start charging people now" pop-up. bah.
